I've used this for white water kayaking. It ended up with a few dents and me a sore shoulder but it sure was fun. Umm, probably better suited to flat water kayaking such as this.

I don't own one, but I've fly fished from one of these. A peddle kayak from Hobie with Mirage drive. Room for gear. You can throw dry flies or peddle while you drag a nymph. Great fun!

12-28-13 The channel cut by a power boat in Greenwich bay had re-frozen, and was about an inch thick.

Far from the level of kayaks and post here, but does anyone have experience with super light, ultra portables, foldable type?
I'm planning on touring again this summer by road bike... bicycle that is, and want to explore the occasional streams and lakes, drop a fishing line, smoke a doob in CO... LOL. Definitely staying away from rapids or rocks. Depending on how many are participating, not sure yet but want two kayaks just so no one is solo in the waters. I do have a lightweight bicycle trailer to pull the camp gear but thinking its best to leave at home. It takes a bit of the two-wheeled experience out of it and prefer minimalistic and the lightest stuff. Currently use two panniers and a framed hiking backpack fits to a rear rack. The life jacket will double as a pillow and collapsible paddle are the easy part. Ideas??

The Hornbeck Blackjack 12 is not a folding canoe, but at 14 Lbs., you might want to take a look at it.
![]() There is also the Oru Kayak that folds, but is 26 Lbs. Take a look at their pictures. There is on of a guy towing their boat on a bike. ![]()

I so want to build a canoe, a stripper would be easy, but I'm thinking kevlar.
I'm serious... I just got 6 gallons of epoxy from US Composites (enough for two boats), I have all the wood I need and tools. Now I just have to commit and find the time. I'm also repairing my dad's old kevlar canoe (16' at 48 lbs) to get some experiance before I make the plunge.

hoots- Thanks for the links. Neat vessels, especially the Oru. Something to look further into and will try to locate a dealer / seller.

I was recently bored and rigged up a 3.5hp motor to my trusty kayak. Cruised around for hours on a gallon+ of gas. What a blast! Yep, paddling against the current really ....s**ks! For those of you nutty enough to try this yourself, outriggers are strongly recommended.

I'm happy that this thread popped back up because I just pulled the trigger and purchased my first kayak this evening. It's nothing special but I've wanted to get one for a while because I live on the water. I'll try to post a pic tomorrow.

![]() As promised. This is a pic of my first kayak ride and it was taken this morning. I bought it last night. It provided a nice little workout.

Guys, the ones with the ocean kayaks, how are you transporting them?
Here's my issue, I traded my Cayenne in on a pickup and I put a backflip on the pickup. There is racks that go with the backflip but they don't have good kayak mounts. I still gave my Yakima racks and rollers which I'd like to use, but I would have to get new uprights which would mean taking off the backflip and mounting hardware every time I want to use my kayaks. I really want the cover on as well as having kayak mounts...or sell everything and get a cap and new kayak mounts, but I really don't want to do that. What say ye?
