I need to get another phone

The old motorola is almost dead.

Need a new phone, but not so interested in a smart phone. I realize that I may not know what I am missing, but it is pretty rare when I am anyplace I don't have access to a computer. Don't really travel much, when I do, I take a map, hence the GPS function is not particularly attractive to me. I don't text much, so the slide out keyboard thing, meh.

Am I being a luddite thinking I should just get another flip phone?

If you don't want a smart phone, don't get one. Once you have one, you'll start using it more than you ever wanted to.

A friend of mine resisted the smart phone forever. I kept telling him how useful he'd find it once he has one. A year later it's still a running joke... "Why didn't you tell me that I needed this thing sooner!"

I resisted phones that were anything other than a basic phone for a long time. I used to love the very basic Nokias. Now I can't imagine being without a smart phone.

wait till September 10th when Apple will come out with the 5s and 5c, take a look then make a decision. Remember its more than just a phone... its a ipod, camera, internet, texting, clock, weather. calendar, photos, flashlight, etc. I get what your saying but I think you would like it. Try it for couple of years if you don't like it you can always go back....

I have a simple Nokia 3110 phone, unlocked GSM phone. I bought it on the internet for about $130.- new, 4 years ago. It works with the SIM card to connect to a carrier. I chose T-Mobile. On my German visits I can put another local carrier SIM in and use it there. T-Mobile has a prepaid plan in the US: For $100.- you can call for one year and included are 1000 minutes. After a year you can renew with for little as $10.- and all unused time from the prior year gets credited. It has a reasonable 1 Megapixel camera and you can add up to 2GB of micro SD memory. It is also supposed toi work with Blue Tooth, but I never tried that. That is all I need. I don't text and only answer programmed-in phone calls

New iPhone rumored to come out in September.

You'll love it.

Hope it's better than the 5. Been disappointed in mine. The 4 was more stable (at least mine was).

To the op....seems you already know you don't want a smart phone. Are you one of those guys that doesn't own a TV or use power tools?

Embrace technology...it's not going away.

I was another one that thought a smart phone was a stupid wast of money. Then I took a sip of the KoolAide. I can't imagine life without my smartphone. It is my second brain.

You will wonder why you resisted after a short time.

Wife has a smart phone, I have a 5 year old Samsung flip phone which suits me just fine, particularly the small size. My texting consists of Y / N / OK.

Drawback: a couple of weeks ago my 13 yo grandson (who has a smart phone) caught a nice catfish in a local lake. Asked me to take a picture of it with my phone. When I told him my phone doesn't have a camera, he just shook his head and continued fishing... I be a luddite and kind of like it.

Luddite here.
I pay 25 bucks a month for 750 minutes of cell service (never used it all) for a phone that cost me 25 bucks a few years back. I answer it when it rings and ignore the rest of the BS. Life somehow goes on.

20 odd years ago I had one of those big clunky things.....I was in biddness for myself. I got rid of it at the first opportunity.

My first cell phone is the one I now have...bought in '08 when my RE agent told me to do so...otherwise, I'd probably not have one. But when friends pull out their smart rig, I'm all over it. Do I want to pay $100+/mo. for another toy? (confused)

Let me be clear: if you get a smart phone you WILL love it. But if you stay old school you won't miss what you've never had. I catch myself buried into my phone way more than I would like. These things are addicting.

I'd rather read a book. I do have a Kindle, however,.....the only advantage with that is you don't have a book to throw away.....or just across the room when it turns out to be junk.

I love my Nokia Lumia 920. It was $100 with a 2 year contract at AT&T. I will be buying Nokia's as long as they sell them... Windows Phone 8 is easy to use...

I have a smart phone...I prefer a regular phone. I am often around a computer and I have a gps in my car.

I want a phone that is a quality phone. Smart phones do many things well, but they have terrible phone quality.

I just "upgraded" to a Nokia 521. This is a smart phone, but you can own it outright for about $100.00. The phone quality is the best I have seen in a smart phone. Leave it to Nokia, a phone company, to know how to make a phone work.

Anyway, I will say that I do enjoy being able to text every now and again, but for the most part, I prefer being able to talk to people...now I just need something worthwhile to say.

Steve sort of sums up where I am coming from.

I have used a smart phone before, borrowed Mom's i phone, or whatever it is one time when I was tooling around Northern California in my car. It did a lot of things well, but is not a very good phone. I don't think you can even get a cell phone without a camera. I have used the camera on mine about 5 times since I got the thing.

I loved my Motrola Razor, hated to see it go, found a pretty good used replacement Razor on CL and made it another year. Finally did the iphone 3 ( about 3 years ago ), love it, hands down, the best cell phone I've ever had ( still have my Motrola Brick ). Best thing I did was buy the Otter Box case, the phone has never been out of the case.
