Please Baz, why don't you take a poll of 1000 people and see who they would rather have as their QB, Manning or Tebow.

A guy who has multiple Super Bowl appearances, a Super Bowl win, multiple league MVP's....or Tebow, who closed his eyes and got lucky on an 80 yard pass to win ONE playoff game before getting slaughtered in his 2nd, then bounced around teams hoping to get some extra fans in the seats, like a clown before spending the next few years trying to learn how to properly throw a football since EVERYONE agrees he is at best, a horrific thrower and marginal runner.

Hell, I'd STILL take Elway right now over Tebow!

Then he should just play running back. No issues with a bad throwing motion if you're a running back.

The issue I see is that the linebackers in the NFL are all a lot faster than in college. Remember when some NFL teams "tried" the triple option because the Wishbone was so effective in college? It did not work in the NFL due to the speed of all the linebackers and how long the plays take to develop.

But, Chip uses misdirection and knows how to use a defenses strengths against them. His plays do not take long to develop and all he wants from a defensive player is just the slightest hesitation for his plays to work. He'll be looking for a real speed burner for a running back who can also catch.

I said it years ago that somebody would finally try to install an offense in the NFL without the standard drop back QB. I'm thinking it is finally coming. And Chip is always fun to watch and listen to.

That seems plausible, and I hope it's right.

Would make for a very interesting team to watch.

I'd assume Sam Bradford would be gone, they'd need to move him to be able to move up to get Mariota. The other QBs (Sanchez, Barkely and the guy from Arena football) can't be worth much in trades.

It would be very interesting to see if a non-standard drop back QB offense can work in the NFL. I actually think it can, except I'm not sure for how LONG it can be done.

QBs regularly running past the line of scrimmage seem to not have long careers. It's no accident that you rarely see Payton Manning, Tom Brady or other long term elite QBs do it.

I think Russell Wilson provides a good template. Mobile QB but he rarely runs into the face of the defense. Using the QB as another running back, much like Tebow was in college, will eventually take its toll. Minimize the hits on the QB and I think a spread style offense can absolutely work in the NFL. But you have to build your team around it, and I think Chip is trying.

Don't think Tebow is a polarizing figure? Look at the passion on this thread, both negative and positive, for what is essentially a walk-on QB with very limited NFL experience.

You'd take Elway over Tebow but Elway took Tebow over you!

As a casual football fan I find it interesting the views in this post. It seems to me the supposed major flaw with Tebow ( his throwing motion/mechanics ) have supposedly been fixed per what I read on the net. So if that is true why shouldn't he get a shot at being a starter. To me he seems pretty quick, he has good size, not afraid to tuck the ball and run and if his throwing mechanics are fixed will be able to throw the ball well. Add to that a good person/citizen what's not to like ? He may just surprise some folks or maybe he won't I guess time will tell assuming he's given a real chance to compete for the position.

pavulon 04-24-2015 03:19 AM

I'm happy he won't be messing up ESPN college football for awhile.

DaveE 04-24-2015 04:49 AM

He'll make it on his talent or not. There are plenty of religious players in the NFL. There are plenty of good guys and bad guys also.

Years away from the game is going to be a bit of a challenge... speaking from experience, I went 4 seasons from helmet off to helmet on again and it's not like riding a bike at full speed. Throwing with a coach and a couple receivers with perfect routes is one thing... throwing with an offense and defensive line battling in front of you is another with receivers adapting routes.

Mechanics being fixed is only a small piece of the battle he'll face... he does seem to have the work ethic and commitment to have a chance at it if anyone would. First on the field, last off the field and study study study.

Then there was Fran Tarkenton....... Fran Tarkenton - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

McLovin 04-24-2015 06:48 AM

Yea, but tark played in the era that still had 200 lb linemen.

Players are much bigger stronger faster and harder hitting now, but knees haven't gotten much stronger.

Also, as far as QBs and tebow being good enough to be an NFL QB, you have to remember that you don't need to be a superstar to be a qb. There are only a handful of those. Most are ".500" level QBs that are incapable of taking a team to a Superbowl.

Joe Bob 04-24-2015 06:54 AM

I watched Colin K while at UNR. He could be THAT guy if they let him. But IDGAF as I loathe the 49ers.

Jacksonville Golf and Country Club club house, use to play there regularly.

Chip Kelly: Tim Tebow improved, will compete
By Chris Wesseling Around the NFL Writer
Published: June 23, 2015 at 07:51 p.m. Updated: June 24, 2015 at 10:44 p.m.

When Tebow first signed with Philadelphia back in April, the other Eagles quarterbacks downplayed the "competition."

Mark Sanchez hinted that Tebow was merely a camp arm while Matt Barkley told reporters that his practice reps would not be affected in any way.

Now that the offseason program has wrapped up, though, it seems evident that Tebow is pushing for a roster spot.

"I have seen an improvement from Tim since the day we got him in terms of his knowledge of what we're doing, understanding where everybody is," Kelly said, via the Delaware County Times. "There's a whole process, and for him what we have done is different than what he's done anywhere else.

"So in terms of learning our terminology and how we do things, I think each week you've seen an incremental bump in him, so we're excited to see where that takes him and it'll be a good competition as we get into August."

Although no one is suggesting Tebow will compete with Sanchez and Sam Bradford for the starting job, his improvement on the practice field has not gone unnoticed among the beat writers.

When Tebow first arrived in Philadelphia, per the Allentown Morning Call, he "looked like a high school player." After two months in Kelly's offense, though, "he's improved steadily to the point where he's a legitimate threat to win the No. 3 job from Matt Barkley."

The competition for Barkley's job will play out on the field in August, just as Bradford and Sanchez battle for the opportunity to open the season under center.

That's more than we expected from Tebow when Kelly surprisingly pulled him out of the television studio in April.
.

So maybe in three weeks Tebow has improved enough to take the #3 spot despite the EXPERTS' opinons.

And suppose he continues to improve and is threatening the #2 spot. Then what? Bradford gets a season ending injury walking out of the tunnel when he trips over the grass.
Sanchez gets the nod and his completion percentage is the highest in the league, to the other team.
He manages a 3 and 6 record and the fans get sick and tired of him, AGAIN!
So what do they start yelling?

TE-BOW!
TE-BOW!
TE-BOW!
TE-BOW!
and the pressure builds

Eventually Kelly caves and put him in.... and they manage to eak out a victory.
And the next week, same result. Tebow 2 and oh.

So they stick with him and he WILLS his team to victory week after week, inspiring his team mates to play above their heads and make miraculous plays.
Just like in that incredible season of 2011, the most entertaining football I ever had the opportunity to watch.

It could happen .............. another miracle I mean.

In 1985, the family moved to the Philippines where they served as Baptist missionaries and built a ministry.[17] Prior to becoming pregnant with Tim, his mother contracted amoebic dysentery and fell into a coma. She discovered she was pregnant while recovering. Because of the medications used to treat her, the fetus experienced a severe placental abruption.[17] Doctors expected a stillbirth and recommended an abortion. The Tebows decided against it citing their strong faith. On August 14, 1987, she gave birth to Tim in Manila

It was fun watching Tebow that year. Honestly. Don't know if he could repeat it, but it would be fun to see him try.

I have no particular view on Tebow, just asking about the depth of his fans' faith in him.

if you have read anything from sammy, its obvious that no amount of data or experience can shake there faith in him. and if he fails, it can't possibly be because he lacked talent, skill, or dedication, it can only be because of a conspiracy.

as for tebow himself, IMO he is yet another product of the trend of big tough running QBs in college that dont amount to much in the NFL, because the NFL is so much bigger, faster, and is a passing league. the running QB is dead in the NFL, the defense is just too quick and too athletic. you need pinpoint accuracy, and good intellect to play QB in the NFL, not athleticism and ball protection skills, thats what you have running backs and tight ends for.

be interesting if he fixed his passing problem, that would/will certainly help him.
