When I lived in Germany this was brought up and even voted on if I recall correctly. The proposed speed limit law lost by a landslide.

The idea reinforces the truism that the two most plentiful elements in the universe are hydrogen and human stupidity.
We need to get rid of the EU as soon as possible.....I am so sick of those guys. Dennis |

It wont work and the Germans have already rejected such calls(pays having a large car lobby).
In contrast to the article in Germany the calls have come from the greens and its nothing to do with road deaths and more to do with emission levels. The UK doesn´t need them as they already have cameras everywhere. The even have cameras that read your registration plate and calculate your average speed. |

The article I read, not the one posted, said the EU wants to install speed LIMITERS in all vehicles both new and old. They would electronically limit speed to 70 mph. What control on it's citizens will the burrocrats in the EU think of next?

Politicians are *********s everywhere and their ideas are coming from the guys who supply them cash, i.e. corporations. In US, most of the national budget goes where? Into the pockets of Lockheed, GE, Boeing and the like through weapons deals. In Europe some d*ck invented some device and wants to become rich, that's all. Paid to some lousy lowlife politicians and they want to implement it. Not that is will be implemented at all but still...

Sounds like a new position in the EU is being created for Nanny Bloomberg.

This will never pass. It will kill their car industry. It would be the death of them if a Honda Civic can be advertised as being able to go faster that a Porsche.
In Germany about 60% of the Autobahn (Interstate) is limit free. From the multiple times I have been there during my career in the Air Force, I never saw any police pulling people over. They rely heavily instead on speed cameras. The irony is that they drive twice as fast as we do, yet we have a higher mortality rate. There were a number of sections I was on where the limit was 130 kMh (81 mph).

S2GART is right. I am german (living in Berlin). Every now and then somebody comes up with this stupid idea which will never ever pass. The truth is that about 60% of our industry is related to Car manufacturing and people know that. German cars have a reputation of being "autobahn proven" - you may rest assured nobody here wants to jeopardize this.
