I was told today I was in the top 12%

I was buying plants at a nursery and had exact change for the invoice including the coins and the sales associate (daughter of the nursery owners) told me I'm in the top 12% if I carry change on me to make purchases.

I didn't know that.

I knew I was special but wow...12% is pretty good!

Probably in reference to people who know that for something that is $1.36 you don't get back pennies if you hand the cashier two dollar bills, two quarters, and a penny.

I'll tolerate up to $2 or so of change in my pocket before I purposely start using it up. Often have no change, or just a couple of coins.

I don't really know what she meant....I assume it is associated with people who have cash and carry it with them (?)

We see lifestyle pieces all the time on ways to define people - as 'this' percent of the population....and 'that' percent....

I assume that's where she got it from.

I remember when I was a little kid - my Dad used to jingle his coins in his pocket while he was standing around chatting with other adults about stuff...maybe it's a traditional way to demonstrate you are successful.

Not that money alone makes one successful, of course.

Food for thought.....

When I was a resident, we'd have morning rounds with our attendings. If you were on the service responsible for the patients belonging to the department chairman, he'd be there on daily morning rounds. During patient presentations, if something didn't go well with a patient, if you didn't know the answer to a question asked of you, if you were pimped (asked a theoretical question) and hemmed or hawed with the answer, you'd likely hear the department chair increasingly impatiently jingling change in his pocket. Over the years we all developed a Pavlovian discomfort with that sound. After awhile I started to wonder: Where the heck did he stop on his way to work every day that he would have a pocketful of change at 7 in the morning?

She wants you Baz! How are your skillz in plantology?

Some hit on roofers. Not to worry, find your niche. You have a chance opportunity to let this story develop and hit on nursery chick, take pictures and post!

We could even do a poll, who is hotter, roofer girl or nursery chick!

Ok, I'm just teasing and in no way serious.

Wink, wink, nudge, nudge (sorry there I go again).....

Of course, you're right Esel. We are slipping. Post #13 before someone asks: So was she hot? Pics?

Ha Esel....I'm pretty sure she wasn't hitting on me...but she is pretty hot. I'll try to get a pic at some point but I don't do a lot of business at that nursery, so it could be a while.

Seemed pretty clear to me. He had one, cash — and two, some silver. That would easily equate to 12% of the population bout buying things AFAIC.

But is that necessarily a 'top' thing?

If I think I have change I pull it out first otherwise the cashier enters the amount tendered to get the change due before I can get the silver out. If you present the bills first and then some silver, it befuddles them.

I usually say with the change, "Here's the down payment."

99% of the time, I'll put any change I might have in my pockets at the end of the day into a box. I carry very little cash, a couple of twenties tops.

I bet I'm in the top 97%.
