I thought after the OJ trial Ito would be regulated to parking tickets and dog license fines but today I heard on the news he sentenced someone to jail for sexual assault. I couldn't believe he even still had a job in LA.

He actually handled the trial pretty well as I recall given what a ridiculous circus it was.

He was the reason the trial was a circus. He was an embarrassment to the law. The lawyers are advocates. They're supposed to do what they can, within the rules of professional responsibility, to help their client. The judge is supposed to keep control of the courtroom and keep the lawyers in line. Ito abdicated all control to the defense team and made evidentiary rulings that were truly bizarre. Most of the games the defense played wouldn't have been possible had the judge admitted only the evidence into the trial that had proper foundation. The whole Mark Furhman sideshow of whether he ever used the N word was a collateral issue that should never seen the light of a courtroom. I can go on and on about the fundamental mistakes he made. He got camera drunk. There's no other explanation.

I knew a woman judge in LA at the time, she didn't want anything to do with that case, she said Ito wasn't up, it wasn't his turn to get the case but he knew the publicity it would have and lobbied hard to get it. Jumping over others for the shot at fame. I thought he, Marsha Clark and her boy friend were really the reason OJ got off.
