TN approves adding military service to drivers license

Have an honorable discharge?
Prove it, and get a special drivers license.

Cant find an article specific to TN, but heard it on the news this morning.

Here is a general article discussing it:

States consider adding military service to driver's licenses

As a holder of 2 honorable discharges (army and navy) I think this is awesome!
Hopefully the officer pulling me over is also an alum of the largest frat in the nation.

Can I get a hooyah!!

Thank you for your service. I mean that honestly.

BUT, its OK for an officer to ignore an infraction because of a "fraternal" relationship? If the officer is white should he let me offbecause I am too? Or we went to the same college, etc?

I should have read the article first. ops: I'm all for that convenience.

The last paragraph is nonsense however.

Ironic that we would get a pass on evading a legal system we served to protect.

I have never been challenged about my service record, guess I just look honest. I still have (and carry) my Reserve card which shows "indefinite" under expiration. Issued 20 June 1974 (CPT Widgeon, USAR)

I have Navy and Army Honorable discharges, also ! Plus my retired I.D. card. I love eastern TN and look forward to moving there, once I get things here settled.

Hey, California will be giving drivers licenses to illegal immigrants. That's almost as cool, right?

Good for TN for doing something honorable!

I try to stay un bias, but have to admit I will show favoritism to somebody who served their country. Many a time tried to get some shut eye not knowing if I would wake up. If you werent there you will never understand. So yes, I would let a brother or sister slide for a minor offense. But because we root for the same college team? No comparison. Hooyah!!

Much respect for military veterans here.

Zero respect for TSA personnel here.

One-quarter of TSA personnel are military veterans.

Interesting.

So, as a member of this big fraternity, are we supposed to believe you are above the laws that ALL of us are supposed to obey. I dont think so. Im happy you served, but enough is enough.

I don't feel anyone should get any special treatment but our President and Congress have certainly set an example that special treatment is fine for many (who don't deserve ****). The person in the street feels like they are getting screwed, well they are. Until we have leaders that lead by example we are all screwed.

I will repeat my opening statement: I don't feel anyone should get any special treatment.

As a vet, all I want is to be treated with respect but I would do that to any person on the street, so what is the big deal?

That's the point. Why should you have to show you're special to get respect? We should have the respect of LEOs until we do something to lose it.

The article states that it is for the purpose of proving service in order to get the benefits they've earned. IOW convenience. What's the problem?

That is what their DD214 is for. I do not think that one's service should be reflected on the drivers license. It does give the appearance of special consideration. The service is based on a sense of duty. We already receive enough consideration and respect.

Vets and License

In Georgia a Vet is issued a driver's license at no cost. Nice little perk for having spent a number of years in uniform.
