Upgrading to iOS 7?

Well, who has taken the leap? What do you think thus far? It's not available to me yet in the Central time zone, but I'm definitely going to give it a shot on my iPhone 5.

jriera 09-18-2013 09:29 AM

downloading and installing now ... will update soon (I hope)

shadowjack1 09-18-2013 09:35 AM

Just got an email from my IT group and it said not to download iOS version 7.

Have no idea why.

porsche4life 09-18-2013 09:45 AM

Will do mine sometime today. Have a cousin who has had it for a while as a developer and loves it.

stomachmonkey 09-18-2013 09:55 AM

Waiting for it. Also in CST.

Because they are smart.

They need to see it and evaluate it if are they expected to support it.

GH85Carrera 09-18-2013 09:58 AM

I will wait a few days only because it will go faster. The servers have to be busy now.

id10t 09-18-2013 10:01 AM

Wait a few weeks to see what is really in there....

I'm 2 versions behind - I *dont* want automated messages for whatever some government office decides is an emergency, amber alert, etc.

GH85Carrera 09-18-2013 10:04 AM

Yea, the Amber alert thing is annoying. I wish there was a way to kill that "feature."

Turn it off in Settings -> Notifications. Scroll all the way to the bottom and turn off Amber Alerts and/or Emergency Alerts.

Thanks. I changed it.

I don't have kids. I don't pay any attention to kids. I make it a point to avoid places with a lot of kids. I want a section of every business to have a kid free zone.

Now get off of my yard.

Don Plumley 09-18-2013 11:24 AM

So far so good...

widgeon13 09-18-2013 11:25 AM

Just finished the download and sort of an adjustment. Not all that into it yet. Pretty if you like colors other than that, boring.

Z-man 09-18-2013 12:25 PM

Any issues with downloading it? How's the download speed: the typical 5-10 minutes, or longer?

Don Plumley 09-18-2013 12:46 PM

I was updating both my iPad and iPhone at the same time. It took about 10 attempts each before it either started or completed. Once it downloaded successfully, about 10 minutes.

nostatic 09-18-2013 01:09 PM

The calendar is a move backwards unless I'm missing an option somewhere. Used to be able to have the month and the day's agenda underneath. Now you either drill up or down with no combined view.

Looks like Tempo will get the daily use.

widgeon13 09-18-2013 01:14 PM

I find it harder to read because the print is less pronounced (could be darker or bolder). My internet connection was intermittent and so it took three efforts and about 30 minutes when it finally loaded.

It's different but not necessarily better in my mind.

nostatic 09-18-2013 01:24 PM

Safari seems much quicker.

Geronimo '74 09-18-2013 01:28 PM

Just did it a minute ago, like it so far

Porsche-O-Phile 09-18-2013 01:40 PM

Waiting for jailbreak

Don Plumley 09-18-2013 01:59 PM

Love the new UI look and feel - being able to move through years, month and day - plus I really did not like the old school address book and calendar:

+1

I will hold off getting the new S until then as well.

nostatic 09-18-2013 02:22 PM

The calendar is driving me nuts. It is forcing me into a day planner view of a single day blows. I've often got appointments spread all over the day so I have to scroll to see what I've got at 9am and what I've got at 9pm. With an agenda or list view, I can fit most days onto a single screen.

Try tempo. It has some cool features. Especially automatically dialing conf call codes that are in an appt.

porsche4life 09-18-2013 02:31 PM

Argh.... I can't get damn iTunes updated to download the iOs update...

widgeon13 09-18-2013 02:33 PM

You should be able to load directly to the device. iPhone or iPad.

I had no problems this afternoon. It took about an hour total. Should be shorter when the rush is over.

Sid, you just need to get a Windows computer. ;)

onewhippedpuppy 09-18-2013 03:21 PM

I agree thus far with different not better, but I've only had it for an hour. At first blush I don't like the lighter low contrast color scheme, I need to play with settings and themes to see if I can tweak it. The double click home button shortcut brings up a much easier to navigate screen that seems to be sorted by app usage which is nice. Text has bigger bubbles and is easier to read. Emails you now have to swipe left to erase, why the change there?

onewhippedpuppy 09-18-2013 03:34 PM

I do like the new camera UI, the swipe from the bottom settings shortcut is nice, and I like how Safari automatically maximizes the screen.

RWebb 09-18-2013 03:38 PM

likely some changes are for consistency - maybe even consistency with things in development & not yet released

but, I will let you guys gamma test it all before I move...

How about the list of appointments presented in Notification Center?

rattlsnak 09-18-2013 03:52 PM

just did my ipad and 2 phones all at the same time at @ 15 minutes total. i dont really care for the new updated look and dont like the 'software feel' of the apps if that makes sense ( before you could select an app or type and it was like a direct connection, like a typewriter, now it has the soft bubble feel and everything takes an extra second to become active if that makes sense) and really dont like the white background. Much preferred the black background with white numbers/letters. Funny thing is, wasn't the release before 6 the other way around? it took me 10 minutes to figure out to erase selective text messages. Whew! I was in a panic there for a few moments.

rattlsnak 09-18-2013 04:00 PM

and question, on ios6, you could double tap the home button and see which apps were running in the background and simply hover over them to you got an 'x' and then shut them off, but i dont see anyway to do this on this update and i have a lot of apps running i would like to shut off!

gprsh924 09-18-2013 04:02 PM

iPad done, took about 30 minutes. Haven't really used it, but enjoying the visual change up.

Phone starting now.

Jesset100 09-18-2013 04:35 PM

So far I dig it. The ability to block calls that I don't want, sweet!

Works fine for me and looks cooler - just grab and swipe up:
