300K Milestone in my Truck

I just rolled over 300K miles in my 94 Mazda B4000 pickup, which I bought new. It's still the original engine, and it uses virtually NO oil, and expect it to probably pass emissions in another 2 weeks when it's due. I've changed plugs, a couple of water pumps and thermostats, 2 heater cores, 2 radiators, but that's it. It's still the original Alternator and AC compressor, which still works fine! And I haven't coddled this thing, I use Mobil 1, changed when I feel like it, usually 8-10k miles, or when it gets down a quart.

I used about 15000 gallons of gas in that time at about 20mpg, that's an average of about 79 miles each and every day!

In this throwaway consumer society, consuming more and more imported junk every year, you should be commended hf.

Buying something build to last and taking care of it far more "green" and "eco-friendly" than all the Biosheres and 55 MPH limits ever invented!

update. The Odometer will pass 400k today. I don't use it for my DDriver anymore but it's running well. Blew head gasket at 340k bought a used engine thinking the 1st one was toast. Took the best heads from the 2 motors (they say these heads are prone to cracking) and had a valve job. I spent a little time tracking down CEL some time ago, new 02 sensor and TPS, Oil pressure sender popped one day but was able to fix it on the road without serious damage.

Replaced Brakes, Tires etc, normal stuff. Still original Trans and Rear end. It was just inspected and passed including emissions.

I was surprised when it got 22mpg on a trip to New Braunfels in June.

Yea, it's faded and the clear coat is pealing, but I've gotten my money's worth out of this truck.

That you did! I've got a buddy with the same truck and it has well over 300K on it. Basic tuneup and maintenance, nothing more.

It's the "joe dirt" of trucks. It just "keeps on, keepin' on!"

400k is impressive. I agree regarding the comment above, we would have far fewer problems if people simply took care of what they have.

Definitely one of the better looking pick ups of that era. You should write Mazda a letter to see what they do. Maybe they'll page the spirit of James Garner to spend an evening with you or something.

I have to say: Big Deal. My '82 Landcruiser odometer stopped at 181,000 miles way back in the nineties. It's my daily driver still. I figured it must have about 600,000 miles on it by now. Still the first engine and first transmission. Even some light bulbs are still original! And it runs, and runs, and runs.

I love hearing these stories! My 2004 4Runner only has a mere 128K miles on it. Just broken in.

I sold my 2003 4Runner to Paul (Seahawk), he's well over 200k with very little work done. Those are great trucks.

1982? A 40? You're daily-driving a 40!! Cool. I'm now driving an 80 as a daily driver (but it only has 144k miles on it).

Always impressive to hear about long milers. My (future) wifes father has an old Volvo 740 that got almost 300k miles and still uses it every day. Dragging a lot of heavy stuff with it and still the original clutch.

I had two 80s. the first one was an earlier ones but the speedo broke at 260000. That thing was built like a tank, It finally died (with me trying to kill with many desert miles when I was a young punk). It finally rolled about 6 years after the speedo was broken with no issues but a new radiator. the other 80 (93) had a pin hole in the head gasket and no other problems. it ran strong with a tad bit of water every couple thousand miles. It was killed by a woman on the phone. Those trucks are good. I especially like their mid 80s pickup with that 22R motor. tough little thing. Oh, lets not forget about our GM350. That little motor will run for a long time if taken care of.

Best I ever did was 395,000 in a 1985 Chevy Blazer with the 2.8L V6.

Changed the water pump twice, an alternator and just religious maintenance. Only thing that stopped it were the lobes on the cam wearing flat. I figured it was done at that point.

At 200k my 1991 FJ80 had a replaced water pump and fuel pump. That's it. Fantastic truck that I should have never sold.

The 91s were the more durable truck compared to the 93 or 94 model. They just had a little less HP (SOHC). My old one, the 91, was bomb proof. it wouldn't die. Radiators and an alternator, that was it. People who take care of them occasionally see north of 300k on these trucks. Well, except for the known head gasket issues of a certain year trucks like mine. Still, I would buy one again in a heart beat. I know how you feel about sellers remorse. I have the latest gen 4 runner now. On paper, it is suppose to do what the LC will in dirt, but I sure do not feel it. Faster on road for sure.

270K on the 91 Cruiser, a daily driver for my GF currently, and whoever else might need to use it. The drive line came out of one I rolled at 211K, also a 91. I can not fathom how the previous owner killed the motor in the roller I put the drive line in, but #5 rod knocked a hole in the side of the block.

I know the plugs haven't been changed in over 15 years, and nearly 170K miles. It still gets 10mpg in the city and 14 on the hwy. Alternator, water pump, starter and EFI relay are the only parts I have had to purchase. Mind you I have a wreck that still has many donor parts. Brake light switch is the latest donor part.

1993 was the introduction year for the 4.5L 1FZ motor that is prone to head gasket failure between cylinders 5&6.

The 4.2L 2F motor is bomb proof. We have a couple of those in the family as well.

Making a good guess, I'd say the 944 has close to 300K. The odometer quit working about 1996 with 118K on the clock. It is a DD, rod bearings changed in 2004, but the old ones showed nearly zero wear. Original alt, compressor, starter. New battery, but that's about it. Great car.

400K is quite a milestone. Congrats!

We have some high milers too...

My wife's, LX450 with factory lockers, JDM winch and a TRD supercharger. We did the head gasket and timing chain when the supercharger was installed at 210k miles.

I gave away my 2000 GMC to a buddy when it had 467,000 kms (280,000 miles). He is still driving it with over 300,000 miles on it. This has a lot of hard oilfield use and had over 12,000 hours on the hour meter (we idle our trucks on location in the winter time).

My 2011 Tundra already has 113,000 kms on it. My 77 911 has over 180,000 miles.
