Hunting - What's Your Best Shot/Memorable Experience?
In the spirit of the thread:
. Official 2013 Hunting Season Thread . Tell us about your best/longest/most memorable shot - kill or no-kill...firearm, bow, spear, or blow gun, etc. . My longest was ~ 120 yards, basic shot just prior to sundown on private farm property in No. Dakota. Slowly driving home through a field after a frustrating day of tracking...saw him in some brush across a valley. 200+ lb. Whitetail buck...after field-dress. Dragged him for what seemed like forever (I was a strong teenager at the time...1962).

285 yards at night on a fast walking fox with a 223! He wouldn't stop and was leaving so I took the shot and heard the "WOMP" from the chest hit. Held on top of his glowing red eyes (only thing you can see at night) and he walked right into it. Next day my hunting partner went back to retrieve something and took the range finder to just see how far it was.

We had a helluva hunt one weekend. From Friday evening to Sunday morning, 8 white tails and 1 axis buck harvested. Sunday afternoon my pop and I went out, we had time to blow waiting on the next group to arrive, just driving around, not really interested in shooting anything but the bull. 2 Muffalon come into view on the hillside, nice ones. Bang, down, chamber round, bang, two down. Shots were about 125 yards.
The next group didn't have as much luck, we only harvested 3 does in two days, but the place had been shot up. We did continue to see wildlife, but they were diving in the ditches on the last day. The best shot I have seen was by my buddy, took the head off a sparrow sitting in brush at 110 yards with a 30-06, called the shot beforehand. Same buddy also killed a turkey with aforementioned 30-06 while it was flying.

My best.... 550 yds on a Whitetail. He stopped to kick at the does that were following him. I put the crosshairs on the top of his back and shot him thru the heart. .30-06 155g
Most interesting was a buddy and I had just walked into a dry slew and started a push when two spikers broke out. I had a tag to fill and my buddy asked if I wanted one. He was ahead of me. He shot and the deer dropped and skidded about 20' on the skiff of snow on the cut wheat field. It did a couple of half flops and lay there for a about a minute. We were climbing out of the slew and the deer half got up and fell again. I remarked that it may need another one and my friend said no way. Well that deer got up and wobbled for a few seconds while we were climbing out of the slew and then it started to run. It ran for a 1/4 mile at hyper speed and disappeared into a large stand of trees never to be seen again. We went back to where it skidded on the ground and there was a tuft of deer hair and no blood. We figure he hit it on top of the head. Catch and release hunting.

I caught a decent sized flathead on the first cast with a hot potato chip as bait. I was joking around with my girlfriend who said I wouldn't catch anything better than what she had already caught. Much to her amused annoyance!

Tie the leader/line around the chip, or what?
