Best Way to Clean Carpets That Have Paint Stains?

Painted my Sons room - used a latex. I thought I covered up well with drop clothes but I noticed some dried paint. Whats the best to use to clean it?

Might just try water first, then denatured alcohol. Don't go too strong or you'll mess up the backing.

No wonder if you dropped your clothes. Next time use a drop cloth.

But seriously, I would just call a trusted carpet cleaner guy to fix it for you. A good deep clean every year on the carpet will not be a bad idea anyway.

I hate carpets with a passion. What a great way to keep filth, smells and gunk present at all times. The worst thing is that they seem terribly popular in rental dwellings and you inherit the previous tenant's funk. When I have a choice it is wood or laminate floor with drop carpets where absolutely necessary.

Don't listen to these guys. It's very difficult to get dried paint out of a carpet without ruining it. It's much easier just to get a quart of paint matched to your carpet and paint over your mistake.

I would try to carefully apply paint stripper in small amounts to exactly the paint spots. Paint stripper does not seem to bleach it just softens up dried paint. It can be cleaned up with plain water and neutralized with a little vinegar. And since it is kind of jelly like it will not go deeper than necessary into the carpet fabric.

I'm a professional painter; What we do when that happens is scrape a bit of the carpet's top with a blade... there is really no other way, you'll ruin your carpet. You can slice across and poll with your fingers, the dried up paint should come off pretty easy. You can actually do this without damaging too much your carpet. If the paint is dry, there is no way you are gonna remove it with water and soap... maybe very hot water, I guess that could work, if you are reluctant about using a knife to your carpet.

Goof Off - actually lists dried latex paint as something it removes.

Vinegar works great as a latex remover. It will even loosen paint that has been on for years.
