We go see it Sunday at the local iPic. Stoked!

Rush

Just saw it today. A good film, sort of like a documentary. It could have used more actual racing scenes in my opinion. I know the critics love Hemsworth as Hunt but I think Bruhl stole the show as Lauda. DP

Saw it today. A good movie, but not a great movie.

Great casting, with a story line just about the same level as a made for TV show. However I can see the actor playing Hunt becoming the next James Bond.......There is an excellent youtube vid about an hour long on Hunt vs Lauda for those that would find this subject of interest...

+1, Great Cinematography though.

My wife and I saw it tonight with another couple at the Alamo Draft House. I thought it was excellent, both both women raved about it. A win/win all around.

MotoSook 09-29-2013 03:40 AM

I wasn't impressed. Would see it again on DVD.

Gosh guys I saw it last night and was underwhelmed. However, I would see it again. Perhaps I had very high expectations. YMMV

Saw it last night, my wife and I both really enjoyed it, but was kind of surprised how empty the theater was for an 8PM Saturday night show. Only about 25 people.

Here is a good summary of the plot vs the actual story:

This.

My wife thought Senna was a far better movie (as do I). But a good effort for mainstream Hollywood. Theater was pretty full at the 10pm show. The 8pm show was pretty much sold out except for the front rows.

Saw it last night with wife and 18 y.o. daughter. They just loved the Hunt actor.

I didn't like the sub titles.

Did anyone see any goofs?

I think I saw one but want to see if anyone else saw any before I say mine.

There may be some pointed to here...
Very enjoyable movie for us anyway.

I thought it was a very good movie, but not an excellent racing movie. It was the best story I've ever seen in a racing movie- blows Le Mans out of the water in that regard. But I was left wanting for more racing. They only covered a few races due to the small budget and to me it seemed like the movie begged to be longer. The beginning especially seemed, uh, rushed. And the F3 cars sounded a lot faster than they looked (until the crash when they sped up by 200 mph). But all in all the story won me over. I used to think Lauda was who really should have won the championship that year but now I think a lot more of Hunt. I still like the BBC documentary best for its more in-depth coverage of the technical bits (oil cooler, protests, etc.) and the racing footage.

As far as the R rating, there were lots of nipples and heavy breathing but not much more than that. I felt the blood was nothing compared to the video games and movies out there. The thing I would be concerned about with the kiddos would be the extensive foul language. But it was mostly used well, to excellent effect.

Was that a 911 safety car in the background of the crash scene?

I've not seen the movie yet, but there should be a 911 Safety car in the background.

Interesting story about that very car in Excellence a few issues ago.

Saw the film yesterday afternoon. Wow! Just wonderful. Very well done. Intercutting clips of the real people at the end is a stroke of genius. So is the use of comments from Lauda. Have to say, the recreation of the crash scene is one of the most horrific things I've ever seen. As someone else mentioned, it does feel a bit like a documentary. Call it a docudrama. We liked it. A lot.

ZOA NOM 09-30-2013 06:43 AM

Disappointed in the CGI action scenes. Typical cheesy racing from Hollywood, IMHO. I liked learning the story between the two racers, that was about it.

cockerpunk 09-30-2013 07:10 AM

loved it. i loved that most sports movies, need a bad guy. a real evil mo-fo to make you hate him, for there to be drama. both luada and hunt could have been made into a "bad guy" pretty easily, but they weren't. and it was still very dramatic.

its not a racing movie though IMO, its a movie about how passion manifests differently in people, and what a rivalry is actually about.

very good movie.

URY914 09-30-2013 07:45 AM

^Agree.
They really didn't make a villain out of either one of them. Just competitors.

creaturecat 10-06-2013 09:12 AM

Finally saw it, last night.
Thought it was great.
The noise. the camera work. amazing.

Thanks, this is what I was looking for. Boobies & cursing won't traumatize my son, we'll see it next week.
