Agreed. I've been to school at Road Atlanta and Bondurant. Between SCCA and PCA, I've earned boxes of trophies. There's nothing to prove on the street.

Spirited, but pretty relaxed overall. I used to be pretty aggressive in my youth, but a combination of kids and increased speeding fines have slowed me down. I maintain my interest in driving by focusing on precision and smoothness.

BILLS 84 CARRERA 10-12-2013 11:17 AM

I drive aggressivally, but always paying attention, and yes, be curtious to other drivers ie, signal when changing lanes, use the hand wave, let people in etc.
With that said you can have fun, always have ane eye peeled for cops (as they may not share our "enthausim") loose others on turns (driving skill) minimise tire chirp and i usually spin tires only when wet (minimise load on drivetrain) and practice sliding on turns when wet as this will teach you how far you ca spin the backend around w/out loosing it! Have fun guyes!!!!!!!!!!!

BILLS 84 CARRERA 10-12-2013 11:33 AM

Oh you pussies, 911 are fkn made to drive agressivly, pay attention be courtious and slide around, these motors are made to rev agressivly (not overrev.) and loose others on turns! Wind through the gears, dont lug, and practice sliding when wet!
Ck. Your cv bolts and tune your motor, change your oil (always should be honey color) and drive the **** out of these cars, they hate to sit and be "weekend warriors!) the porsche was developed for racing dont forget that!......have fun!!!!!!!

Like whitewater rafting, you're only in control when you're going faster than the flow. Slower and you're at the mercy of the water, or traffic in this case

I suppose age has a lot to do with it, or maybe seeing what can happen when things don't go just right, but I drive more responsibly than 30 years ago.

I had a lot more than my fair share of good luck when I was young and foolish, so am now attempting to 'make my own luck'.

Every now and then, though, I will take advantage of conditions and be a bit anti-social.:D:D

Keep the shiny side up.

Over courteous .... I live in a small city and don't need to be labeled "the prick with the Porsche".

I was taught this in high school... back when driver ed. was a FREE elective (and buffalo roamed the plains)

And it was full service... we sat in class and read books on driving... and watched movies (like the smith system), then sat in 'driving simulator's, then they took us out in those cars with the two brake petals... did I mention it was free?

I was somewhat dismayed to find out my step daughter had to go to a private driving school... so we no longer teach home ecc. or driving in high school... we are raising a generation that can't cook, clean, or drive.

Now GET OFF MY LAWN!!!

Smooth, flowing, use a street, rather than racing, line (which means I never apex until I can see all the way around a corner). Never more than seven tenths. I hate the part where you crash.

Basically "look up the road"

I'm continually amazed at how many people drive focused ten feet in front of their car. You know, like when you see road construction a mile up the road with orange trucks with blinking lights, workers in orange reflective vest, orange cones for a hundred feet, a giant blinking arrow... and there is always some idiot that pulls right up to the giant arrow before they realize the lane is occupied.

Back to my driving style:

If everything seems under control, you're just not going fast enough.

Mario Andretti

I wonder why they don't say "look up the road".

Aim high in steering. All your base are belong to us.

1) Aim High In Steering
Look down the road 15 seconds ( aiming low would be staring at the bumper of the car in front of you )

2) Get The Big Picture
scan at least one of the mirrors every 5-8 seconds

3) Keep Your Eyes Moving
scan, don't fixate eyes on anything longer than 2 seconds

4) Leave Yourself An Out
don't get boxed in, always have an "exit" strategy for when ( not "if" ) danger comes your way

5) Make Sure They See You
make sure pedestrians, bicyclists and other vehicles see you, use lights, flashers, horn ( gentle tap works fine )

It's considered Advanced Driving Skills and not meant to imply those who don't use them are bad drivers. Smith System wants to enhance or sharpen techniques already being used.

All good rules. #1 not very intuitive (although very important), but the rest are.

I like: 1-5. Don't be where the crash happens.
