(a fit) Val Kilmer would make an excellent Carroll Shelby. Certainly better than Tom.

I felt so disappointed with Valkyrie. That movie could have really been something.
But to his credit he does have an excellent work ethic.

Cruise has jumped the shark. Too much baggage for me to take him seriously. The Scientology farce he promotes makes me question his sanity. Renders his acting gigs unwatchable for me. YMMV. I hope they get someone good for the Shelby story as it is so worth telling.

The Scientology thing is difficult to understand but that isn't the problem IMO.

For me Tom has become a cliche. He really needs to reinvent himself.
All of his movies are about making money and not much else which makes them extremely predictable.

He does fill the seats. Another Mission Impossible is coming in December. This franchise always seems to do $100MM on each outing. Keeps the studio execs popular with shareholders I suppose.

Jeremy Clarkson should have some availability these days.

Seems like you either hate him or ... you hate him.

Yet the guy banks? Strange how people are.

ckelly78z 04-03-2015 04:53 AM

Tom Cruise is completely full of himself and his religion, it makes his movies hard to watch because of what an azzhat he is.

seanratpel 04-03-2015 06:44 AM

Hell, the guy from Seinfeld looks just like him in that previous picture, no????

Tom has to re sell himself to every new generation of movie goer and he seems to have that down to a fine art.
I don't really have a problem with him but his moves are so predictable and yet the masses just flock to see them.

He'd have to be one of the richest actors ever! The Church would be very motivated to keep him in the flock.

Tom is a whacko but I don't watch his movies because of what he does in his personal life.

He has played some really great parts. He's a versatile actor.

I do enjoy most of what he does.

I never get the feeling that his performances are phoned in, unlike someone like Kevin Costner who many times seems to show up simply because it's required to collect his check.

That is a big 10-4 good buddy... this is 'Murica after... freedom of race and religion and all that.

Think about it for a minute... we pay people millions of dollars to get in front of a camera and pretend to be someone... then we get all upset about that persons personal life.

A lot of hate (or sour grapes) in this thread.
Just my two cents.

He nailed it in Born on the Fourth of July. I am sure if the right movie came along he could do so again. He does a bit of his own stunts and does like speed. Suspect there is personal motivation for playing Shelby. In his balliwick.

I don't disagree, but he remains a pretty good actor that seems to have a knack for picking good movies. I find that I'm able to forget all his personal issues when watching his stuff, he works hard at it and is good at his job, I think. Better than Keanu Reeves anyway ;-) There's enough of a resemblance with Shelby to make it work, too !

I really enjoyed Edge of Tomorrow.
It was like the Matrix meets Groundhog Day.
I liked Minority Report. Very Orwellian.
I even enjoyed low brow stuff like Jack Reacher.
In fact, I have never seen a bad Tom Cruise movie.
Rainman, Born on the 4th of July, Few Good Men, etc.

I like most of his movies too. Oblivion was good (even though someone on here said it had a big plot hole.) Edge of Tomorrow, while having a very confusing story plot, was still a good action movie. Minority Report and the MI series were good. Even TAPS at the start of his career was an exceptionally good performance. Not too many actors today can claim that many good and diverse performances across their span of their career.

Could TC bring something different to the Shelby story? I would go see it. Based on past performances, I think it would be entertaining.

Just for you trivia buffs, Tom Cruise's first cousin is an good journeyman actor also. Can you name him along with the long running ABC series he was on without doing a google search? ;)

Funny, I immediately thought the same thing!

However him morphing from and English accent to a Tejax drawl might be insurmountable... :D

That and if it really is to be about the Ford Vs Ferrari years Mr. Clarkson is a bit grey around the edges to play a young Carrol Shelby.
