I came across this video today. Cool Porsche content at the beginning and end. And a really cool house.

The Pope-Leighey House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1940. Located in Alexandria, Virginia. In 1965 the 1200 sq ft /111 m2 home was to be demolished to make way for local highway expansion but it was saved, restored, listed with the US National Trust, and opened to tours. I've been to several clone home McMansion subdivisions, one where the Hardiboard was shrinking leaving 1/2" gaps, and in another subdivision the wood trim adjacent to the vinyl siding was rotting out after only 10 years because of poor detailing. Yea, the whole wall behind it was rotting too, black mold everywhere. More than half the houses in the U.S. have mold problems, much of this is building code related (it's not perfect). Just say'n, going with so-called conventional "follow the herd" approaches have their share of failings. I took several rolls of film and slide film of this building when visiting just over 20 years ago. |
If you do much mold/moisture investigation, an imaging camera can help.
FLW was a racist. I'll also admit bias against FLW. My ex-sister's hubby is a sub-par architect, and idolized him. Yes, ex-sister, not a typo, lol. |
Let's keep the thread about pictures of houses.

I live in a mid century modern Eichler designed by Emmons & Jones.
I specifically purchased this type of home in the 90's when they were considered a PITA Just couldn't stand the idea of living in a non-descript "ranch" style cookie cutter home. Hydronic heated floors, 14' tall windows with an enclosed atrium. No visibility into the home from the street, seamless transition to indoor/outdoor living in the rest of the house. https://www.laconservancy.org/architects/jones-emmons |
