I talked to the company that built that house...very cool stuff. I have two schools of thoughts when it comes to houses I like:

grand, giant old mansions or....

modern, hip, high end.

That's a bit odd.... I could see living in an old firehouse...not so sure about a jail...

Here is the architect / builder's website. He was, at one time, trying to market container homes as high-end modular homes, not sure if his business got off the ground tho...

I liked having the separate living quarters (complete with kitchen). I set up my studio there and didn't have to worry about noise!

I've been watching that house for 20 years now. It goes way up, then drops like a rock.
Some investor built it and thinks he'll make a fortune off it, until he figures out how much it costs to maintain. Then he gets frustrated and tries to dumps it.

I made one low-ball offer on it a few years back, some day I may actually get it but if I do it'll be for a real price, not $2 mil.

My house was built in 1959 by Sholz homes. He only built 5000 homes and was heavily influenced by FLW. Although it cost nowhere near any of these houses, it has a lot of FLW cool factor.
I humbly submit here:

Targa911S,

Your house looks an awful lot like my first home in NE PA.
Are the Scholz homes AKA "deck houses?"
Mine had tongue and groove ceilings throughout but the design features and large overhangs are identical.

Edit...spent some time w/ google.
Scholz homes and deck houses are different beasts with similar influences.

targa911S 11-04-2013 04:44 PM

Matt, I believe this house also had T&G ceilings, but the house fell into disrepair in it's life and they were replaced by drywall. I dream of restoring them to the original. Not sure what a deck house is. The deep overhangs are one of my favorite features of the house. You can walk all the way around the house in the rain and not get wet. SO much glass though. All total there are 36 windows and sliders in the house, mostly floor to ceiling. Washing windows in and out is a full days work for me. This is what I have found about Scholz. I see the early sales brochures on ebay once in a while and they go for stupid money. I just bought the house because I liked it. Never thought of the idea of a "collectible" home.

The General Store and Post Office in our village, circa 1900:

As it looks this afternoon:

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1383621839.jpg

This is a short sale we've been chasing since March, and our final offer was accepted by the bank on Friday. We should be signing the contract tomorrow. We have a tax and accounting practice which is based in our home office (we live across the street) and due to growth, we need more room. The side facing the camera is where the PO and store were, and is where we'll be moving our office.
It's really cool inside, as it still has some of the original PO boxes and parcel post window:

We'll be incorporating these into the office layout.

The side facing away from the camera, is the original proprietor's quarters, which were up until recently being used as a rental unit. We'll be freshening it up (new paint, carpet, appliances, etc.) and renting it out for some extra income, while we renovate the store side. Much work there...complete heating system, some electrical work, etc. We hope to have the office up and running prior to next tax season.

The original proprietor is currently a permanent resident of the graveyard across the street...pretty interesting.
