The 80 is a better driver comfort wise because it is coil and shock while the 62 is leaf sprung. While hauling a load it makes a big difference. The steering is much more precise, but I can only attribute that to the suspension.
I'm sure the advancement in aerodynamics (lol) on the 80 also plays a role at highway speed. One thing I have always been baffled about is the absence of 4th gear in the auto mated to the 3fe. 4th is there, but keeping it there is next to impossible. As you well know, it's either 55 or 80mph, you have to feather the pedal with both the 62 and 80. The 2F was a 4.2l, the 3FE a 4.0l. What I have wanted to for years was to build a 2FE and throw it in my brother's 60 (it's just sitting). I have all the stuff, but he's too tied up raising tax payers of tomorrow.
