Gunman & shooting in Paramus NJ - Garden State Mall
Still developing story. Mall is surrounded by police, FBI, law enforcement.
No casualties found - but shots fired - not sure how many - some reports say multiple shots fired, others say only one shot fired. Confusing scene -- gunman still at large. I drive by this mall on my daily commute. Link to local new article: Shooter At Large At Garden State Plaza Mall In New Jersey « CBS New York

He was found with a self inflicted wound and is dead. They said it appeared that he did not want to harm anyone else but commit suicide. He was also a drug addict.
The rifle was made to look like an AK and was his brother's. Look how much $ the state of NJ saved.

It seems from what I read that its only men that run amok with guns in the US. Why not disarm all the men and give the guns to women instead?

Somehow I think men could still get guns if they gave them all to women. They disarmed everybody in the UK and the criminals seem to have no issue getting guns...

I would surmise that a person would be more likely to die a natural death in the UK than in the US. I don't hear of many shootings in the UK...
OTH I would prefer living in the US than the UK in spite of the gun culture. I would take my chances in the US - it is a huge country and has a lot going for it even if the politics are wonky.... |

In the old days, people just killed themselves in the privacy of their own homes. Consequence of our media driven, look-at-me society?

You were more likely to die of boredom than a gunshot or arrow wound. However, that doesn't make for good TV, does it?

Could be a valid point here, Matt. However, people who killed themselves at home usually did it out of sheer depression and/or desperation. It seems that a lot of today's shootings are fueled more by anger, so they feel they need to take it out on those who have "wronged" them...or any unfortunate bystander.

My guess is that initially he didn't want to do it himself, and this was an attempted suicide by cop.
Seems like he did the deed himself.

I hate to be the old man here but I swear ultra violent video games (fps types) have GOT to be contributing significantly to this.
