21 pcs of R-8 collets in 1/32 increments all for $20:D

cmccuist 03-26-2021 10:55 AM

I picked up this Greenlee conduit punch set at a yard sale - $20. It was in a tool box and everything looked like it was covered in mud. That was a just mixture of rust and oil. An hour's soak in kerosene and it was shining like, well dull tool steel.

I'm no electrician, so I put it up on eBay and already have a bid for $120 plus shipping!

Found in the middle of the road yesterday. Crawford Street - which leads directly to the beach. Probably fell off a golf cart or 4 wheeler that so many use in the area.

Seal still intact and expiration date good. Not smashed up inside. Score! :D

What's the difference between a conduit punch and a chassis punch? What is a conduit punch used for?

Punching conduit. ;)

We went to an estate sale today. They had a collection of about 20 glass ashtrays. Travel Lodge, Holiday Inn, Howard Johnson, etc. They wanted $5 a piece for them. I said to my wife out loud, "Somebody stole these ashtrays and they want us to pay 5 bucks a piece for them?." The lady that owned the house heard me and said, "Well you don't have to buy them." And I said, "I won't be."

They're for punching holes in the sides of breaker boxes so you can fit the conduit to the box. Then pull the wire and terminate.

That is a great deal! The hydraulic unit adds a couple hundred to the value. Here's a set similar to yours that just sold on eBAy:

I punch up to 1/8" with mine. Any thicker than that I pre drill the circle with 1/8" holes and it goes through like butter. Depends on the job really. But I prefer the punches to a hole saw for cleaner holes in sheetmetal. Lately iv been using the hole saws more often for thick stuff. Iv only recently learned how to use hole saws in metal without burning them up.

More free stuff today. :D

Picked up some Gavalume from a place in Deland and on the way stopped at the county transfer station. They have an abandoned "household goods" section where you can take up to 5 items each visit. I stopped both on the way and on the way back. :p

I don't generally do garage sales. What do I want with other people's junk?
But I stopped in at a place that looked like it had a lot of tools and picked up this old, pre-OSHA blow gun for 50 cents. It puts out more air than any blow gun I've ever owned. Except for the weird handle I like it!

I have about a dozen chassis punches that were handed down from my uncle. They are for punching holes in radio chassis so tube sockets can be mounted. Except for size, the are basically the same thing.

Guy I know just found a 2017 Bobcat E55 with 78 hours on it for $56,000 which in today's market is about 10K less than you'd find it at any dealer. I'd say that's a smokin deal... and it is real not a scam.

LOL.... I have 40L of new paint for the inside of my garage, and I've been using free propane all winter to heat my garage from the local recycling drop off.
