I think about 160k were probably going to do the timing belt that has around 60k on it. Cars downstate are pretty clean i guess they dont need to use much salt if any. There is one spot of rust on the rear flare on the other side but otherwise clean even underneeth

If you don't have any service records on it, I'd suggest doing a drain and fill on the trans too. Never hurts and might help the trans work a little longer.
What model is it? LX or ? Nope, EX since it has the 'roof. Sorry.

porsche930dude 03-21-2023 02:21 PM

It says special edition on the back. Good call on the trans

Scott Douglas 03-21-2023 02:26 PM

Yeah, they had the 'roof too, I forgot.
That will be a nice car for that kind of money, especially if the interior isn't all torn up or worn out.

porsche930dude 03-21-2023 02:46 PM

Interior is mint. Smells like a new car. The driver floormat is a bit worn. Its crazy. Has new tires, gas tank, starter. They were going to scrap it and my brother is like wait a minute this is way too good to junk. Its better and newer than any car we have.

stevej37 03-21-2023 02:53 PM

^^^ Very nice score....it prob has another 100k miles in it...or more.

Complete with, bag, cable lock and repair kit.
$25.
After I returned home and put the cover over the Tundra, my neighbor across the street, while taking his recycling to the street came over and asked me if I ever used a Gopro , which of course I do. Then asked me if I wanted one. I said sure, but asked why he wanted to let it go since he has a new baby, which he replied that he bought a camcorder to Chase the baby around the.

I have gotten to the point where I really don't want to get more stuff...it becomes a burden... As a result I only go to the Thrifts on a rare occasion. Where I do not care whether I find something or not.. Wednesday I bought my first item this year other than a couple of Dvd's...the only real exception that I have is heavy French Copper pots and pans or something that is too valuable to just let it sit.. Wednesday I found a heavy French copper 4 or 5 qt Stock Pot with lid...about $11.00. It is a nice addition because it is something that I do not have..

porsche930dude 03-24-2023 02:09 PM

Thats an easy problem to solve. Just buy stuff that you can sell for more. You still get to buy stuff , make money and dont have to keep it.

I don't remember ever buying at a yard sale...I have looked, but never found anything useful.

Same for Craigslist....but I have sold plenty of things on CL. (currently selling my 15" Subwoofer)
More interested in downsizing at this point of my life.

That car has lots of life left in it. We got ours with 170k, it burned oil, but no smoke. Those cars have a timing belt and a balance belt. The timing belt or the balance belt knocked out the timing belt at 303,000 on ours. We're going to pop a rebuilt head on and see how long the bottom end last. I haven't touched the transmission and it's fine.

Nice score!

I think I bought a chair at a garage sale once in college. I've only been to maybe 2-3 other garage sales, maybe. And my experience was that the people had their crap marked far too close to retail prices for old used sheiße.

We've made a bunch of money at garage sales in the past. We probably leave a lot of money on the table, but our goal is to NOT have anything left Sat afternoon. And anything that's not gone is either being thrown out or donated so our pricing is generally pennies on the dollar. We think about pricing ahead of time, and then add a bit, because the hard core garage sale people want to haggle. So if I want to get $10, I'll price at $12-15, and then drop the price to $10.

stevej37 03-26-2023 09:43 AM

^^^ There are many 'hagglers' at yard sales around here. They won't buy unless they get the item at an almost free price....and then they bring it home and resell it on their own garage sale.

The first and last time I had a garage sale was a little more than 20 years ago. After two hours, I put everything away. To avoid killing the shoppers. Prolly took everything to the dump.

We held a yard sale for one of our kids that sold his house, it went pretty well, so well in fact that I came back over to our house and grabbed a bunch of stuff and sold it all, went back again and sold all of that stuff too. You are right about the folks that want it for free: one guy zeroed in on a virtually new leather kit, still had the tissue paper in it, probably a $40 - $50 item in a store. I had $5. on it just to get rid of it. He offers $!.00 for it, I said well, $4 bucks it is yours and he counters 50 cents. My wife tells him to get down the street and find another one, thanks, bye now.. Guy comes back again later and offers $3.00 and I accept. Tough way to pick up $3.00

herr_oberst 03-26-2023 05:01 PM

When he said .50, you should have told him $6. When he offered a dollar, your reply should have been $10

If I have another yard sale (not on your life, frankly), I might create signage that All Prices Are Firm. And have a burn barrel with a fire in it. The moment someone thinks it would be fun to haggle, drop the item into the burn barrel.

I once saw a junkyard guy (who I liked, BTW) named Bob who had a nice instrument console for a fifties Chevrolet on his counter at a very fair price. When the guy would not stop trying to haggle, he took out a hammer and beat it to pieces.

I am not going to have a yard sale. I am also not going to haggle at a yard sale. Yard sale prices are (or should be) ridiculously low. If not, I walk. CraigsList prices should be a third of retail. Yard sale prices should be 1/4 of Craigslist prices. I might discuss price in a CL deal, but not at a yard sale.
