New/old spoon
This has been in the back of the shop for 3 years, so I finally bought it. It's an Allen & Thurber boot gun. .31 cal black powder, From what I can see they only made a couple hundred of these between 1837 and 1842.

yeah, I think so. It's in very good shape. Good bore, strong mainspring. It's called double action, but you can't cock the bar hammer, it only fires by puling the trigger through the full cycle.

It looks to me that it takes a percussion cap? Or is it flint?

it's percussion. I will post better pics later. Here is a pic from the web. As you can see mine is missing the trigger guard. Good luck finding one of those!

Nice buy..........
Check with Dixie Gun Works. I think they still make a copy of this pistol. If so, they should be able to fix you up with a trigger guard. Should be fun to shoot!

It's a screw. I think it adjusts the tension on the mainspring. I haven't had it apart yet.

What kind of tools do you use for that?
I discovered that plastidipping a size smaller screwdriver worked pretty well for not marring the finish |

I have a whole set of special screwdrivers that are specially made for gun screws. They are straight sided as oppose to the tapered sides of your mechanics screwdrivers. When somebody says to me they want to work on guns, the first thing I tell them is to get a set of these screwdrivers. It eliminates those "boogered" screw heads.
