I'll just say it. Non Alcoholic beer has gotten vastly better.
I guess necessity was the mother of better brewing?
I noticed lately that lots of people are not drinking booze anymore. most of my restaurants have a few non-alcoholic beer on the menus even. I do love a beer and I already know which one(s) I will order next weekend. but for the most part, I am dry. I like to have a few N-A beers around. I take them fishing, so when everyone pops open an IPA, I crack open mine and I dont feel left out. I dont think a NA beer will ever top a real beer, but they have gotten so much better. way better. these are two that I actually like. there are some bad ones out there for sure.

They used to stock some swill NA stuff in the chow halls in Iraq early 2000's It was horrible and turned me against the idea.
I had one, maybe 2, one night and woke up with the worst headache the next day. Don't read into it that I had more, cause it was literally one or two. But there were guys that just had to get that fix. Bless their hearts.

I drink one or two beers a week from a mug I keep in the freezer. Although I don't drink a lot, I very much enjoy the ones I have. I can't imagine a reason for substituting real beer (Dos XX) for fake beer.

There are 2 ways to make alcohol free beer.
Option 1 (the cheaper way) is to reuse the spent grain after most of the alcohol is extracted from it. This beer usually tastes crappier and has less than .5% alcohol. Option 2 (the better way) is to distill off the alcohol (which can then be resold) with the remaining beer tasting about the same but with no alcohol. The Germans are way ahead on the alcohol frei beer front and it can be had anywhere (even in Hoffbrauhaus in Munich). I drink mostly alcohol free beer these days for health reasons. I love beer and used to have 2 every night. These days it’s a few alcohol free beers a week and maybe a real one for special occasions. Bud Prohibition is only drinkable with Clamato juice. The Corona stuff is ok on a hot day.

I bought a 6 pack of NA beer last year and was surprised that I had to show ID to purchase it.
The clerk said "In Michigan, and some other states, it's treated the same as reg beer" .

NA Guinness is almost indistinguishable from the original Guinness

Pointless. Drink or don't. Vash, I thought you were watching your diet. NA beer usually (it varies) the same calorie content as a light beer. More carbs. Maybe though, you just have one. IDT most beer drinkers just have one most of the time.

Not sure it's "pointless."
I did a 17 year stretch of being on call every day to every other day. I didn't drink alcohol much before and grew up with an alcoholic dad who was also the son of an alcoholic. So, it seemed best to just drop it for good reasons. Now, I'm on streak of about 17 (I think) years of no alcohol. I still have a bit of FOMO about it. People sure do seem to like beer and if I ever have a beer again, it'll be NA and the best one I can find. ymmv.

pointless? maybe for you Zeke.
but for me, I like the social aspect. sure I could sip tea. but its what I like. 2 NA beers a month isn't going to make me size up my pants again. I think eating a hotdog is more detrimental at this point. I stopped drinking alcohol to preserve my liver. I was having issues. doctors orders. thankfully I am not an addict. I am now at my fighting weight and holding steady as hell!!! liver is very livery healthy again. doc said I could drink if I wanted, but nah..I'm good. I'll have one with you @Pavulon!! I would be honored.

The meds I am on the doctor says alcohol consumption needs to be bare minimum to nothing . I was a Michelob Ultra drinker . My wife surprised me a few weeks ago by coming home from grocery shopping with a 6 pack of Ultra NA . I was very surprised how good it is .

stopping sugar was tougher. it cant be avoided entirely, but just stopping cookies and cakes was a B.

I like to be able to drink a few and still drive. The only thing that aggravates me is that it costs more than real beer.
