Been training much more consistent for about the last 9 months.

46 years old

I would be curious to know what your heart rate/pulse is after your typical workout?

saxen 11-30-2013 12:52 PM

25 years old and 8- looks like I need to loose some weight

Slider79SC 11-30-2013 04:32 PM

160-170 range for that type of workout (Crossfit). Getting better at keeping it around 160 as my intensity/endurance improves. I did the whole lift and 3 minute rest period style of lifting for so many years that my cardio and endurance sucked.

I am working hard at improving my overall fitness instead of just lifting weights. Most of our typical workouts now are between 6 to 25 minutes but at a very high intensity. I spend less time working out and have eliminated most of my old injuries from regular weight training. Now doing heavy Olympic lifting with Crossfit and maintaining muscle size.

Loving Crossfit.....

I am over 50 and I suppose quite a few if I fought through the massive shoulder pain. Genetics, diet and exercise are key. Some can work hard and stay the same weight when they are, say 50, as when they were 20. Some don't have to work hard. For some it is impossible.

When I was 20, I could do several one arm pull ups without a problem. Somewhat rare feat. Strength versus weight. Of course when I was that age, I could hold an iron cross on the still rings for several minutes. That came in handy in my sport.

10 and I'm 51. If I work at them the number gets to 15 pretty fast, but that's a lot for me.

I haven't done any in over a month so I went out to the garage and checked: 5 at 46.

I can tell I'm getting old because I used to usually do at least 10 and I've had a pull up bar everywhere I've lived for the last 30 years. I never did them on a regular basis but I would try to at least crank some out when I thought about it.

Also, when I do them I go from arm completely straight to head above the bar.

I'm a slacker. 15 finger grip on top of door jam trim, down from 20 and only to impress the g-kids..lol. 50++. Fairly regular on routine workouts, year round outside + cycling and x-country skiing. Had a time where I decided to screw office life and get outside and get into construction. Finger and hand grip still there. Best thing for mind and health. Being worn out at the end of day never felt so good or rewarding!

Ukusto 12-01-2013 08:48 AM

Its funny that most of my guys want an office life. many of my subs are beat to hell. My 50 year old concrete man look like a 60 year old man. At least that's what one of my client said to me (a woman of course).

Oh yeah, they outwork my ass any day of the week.

intakexhaust 12-01-2013 10:56 AM

^^^ I could see the same with others my age. BTW: A lot of those guys in the trades are heavy drinkers and smokers. But since I went into construction later, it might have helped. Or maybe I'm just lucky yet I do count my blessings. Always was active, eat healthy and have a fast metabolism.

Lifting in construction is quite different than free weights at a gym. Its all about leverage. Examples are handling 8 ft. concrete forms that if gripped or balanced incorrectly, can cause trouble later on. Done right, little guys can easily outwork a big tough guy. Although I've seen some dumbo human cranes that seem nothing could stop them.

The only long term pain regretfully I caused upon myself was from a one time incident. Working alone on an addition in zero degree, ice - sleet covered ground. Some wrecking crew decided to drop a pile of old bricks directly in the way of my material path and left. I had no other way around the pile. I was carrying stacks of long 2 x 12 for joist on my shoulder (as normal) but was dumb to walk numerous loads over that frozen pile of bricks, ice and cold temps. The next day I couldn't get up. Back was so out of alignment and really screwed up. Took a long time to recover and now once a year my back will warn me and I get the pain.

My last run at them was 2 weeks ago, I made it to 11, managed 4 more switching to underhand grip. I'm 50.

super80 12-01-2013 03:29 PM

20 continuous, I'm 45

Schumi 12-01-2013 10:17 PM

Sid's doorframe gave me the idea, so I tried to bust a few out on my office' door frame.

Snapped the trim off the wall.

So, 0 pullups, and 1 trip to Home Depot.
