Not on Rennlist anymore

Hadn't been on Rennlist in a while, quite a while.

All my old posts are gone. I inquired as to where they went and why as founding lifetime member I couldn't get into all the forums.

Guess that doesn't mean anything anymore, I was told to go to the join and pay page by the "help" desk

The grass is greener here anyway. Thanks guys.

I still have my Porschphiles sport shirt hanging in the closet. Need to pull that out for cars and coffee.

I'm in the same boat. they removed my ability to edit and access my existing posts. I haven’t gone back to see if they removed all my posts, or not. Being a bit petty, I removed the photos I have hosted on my server. If I was really butthurt, I'd notify them that I've rescinded my copyright license to them, and issue a DMCA takedown, which would delete all my posts. And while I understand they have a business to run as they see fit, I do not agree with the core concept of charging people money to provide content.

I've been posting there recently because our 996 forum has nothing but cobwebs and chirping crickets. The 996 forum is pretty good, much better than the Honda Tech type vibe of the 944 forum that I used to frequent. I'm not a member, but may eventually join to post on the classifieds. It's not Pelican, but it's one of the better forums out there.

The crowd here is more sophisticated and helpful too, generally speaking. The 944 forums over there turned into a bunch of kids acting like you'd expect them to on a Honda ricer forum, smattered with self-promotional BS from paying vendors hawking their latest junk. I confess I look from time to time but always think "thank goodness I'm not wasting my time there", then come here and waste even more of it!

I have nothing but love for the 993 forum. Good advice and good people. I just did not want to pay for the off topic privilege anymore.

Back in '02 I got my first Porsche and became a member of Rennlist. I soon found Pelican and the rest was history

Now I'm recently back behind the wheel of another Porsche (996) and as Matt mentioned the Rennlist 996 forum is active vs the Pelican 996 morgue . So I'm a paying member there again. Still come here to kill time though.

I'm letting my "membership" expire as well. I was involved in a discussion where it came out that certain "members" were exempt from paying for their membership, while others were not. These were those members whose political views were consistent with ownership and therefore exempt from payment.

I still really like their 964 forum, and will continue to use their tech portion when necessary, but through with the Off Topic stuff.

Thanks John D

I was a member of Rennlist a long, long time ago.
Seems like every time I asked a technical question someone replied with "go to pelicanparts.com, they'll answer your question."
The rest is history.

I frequent the 968 forum on RL mostly because there is a dedicated forum for it, not bunched together with the 944/924. I tried some of the other ones but they are run by egotistical a-holes who suck the fun out of it. So Pelican OT, RL 968 and 914World is where I hang mostly.

I enjoyed the 964Turbo forum there when I had mine. Although I felt a bit like a red headed step child since it was not the 3.6 Turbo...

Otherwise the comments are pretty spot on, these threads come up every once in a while. John D. did a great job and I ddin't mind the sale to that big company, it just changed the forum a bit.

Yeah.. I stopped visiting when every 944 thread turned into "install a small block chevy or GTFO". That forum was a gold mine when I discovered it back in 2003, too bad.

I'm guessing that the internetbrands.com buyout a few years ago started the slow death spiral...

I was on the Rennlist 911/930 Turbo forums for years starting in 2001, but it lost out to the 911/930 Turbo forum here, as the guys were much more technical. Dropped my membership after I sold my car a couple of years ago and it's just PPOT for me now.

John D did a pretty good job controlling what interntbrands (?) could and couldn't do when he sold it.
