He really is the guru of all things Walther. He has always been the man in US for the old Walther stuff. I've been out of this stuff for a while, but IIRC, at one time he handled all of the Walther imports and service for Walther USA or maybe S&W. I don't know if it is still like this today but when you called Walther USA with a question they would usually tell you to call Earl's.

OK, so on the advice of the Walther forum I tried the following. I've cocked the hammer and put some forward pressure on it with my thumb. I've put what I consider all reasonable force on it, and the hammer doesn't trip. They also instructed me to try cocking the hammer and racking the slide to see if that would cause the hammer to fall. I did my damndest to give it what for and couldn't get it to fall. I'll follow up this evening after my range trip with my wife and I put 50 rnds or so through it.

Thanks for the heads up about Carl the Walther guy. Don't worry, I didn't misinterpret you this time. There wasn't an eye-roll smiley after it. Thanks for being so gracious!

Thanks for the advice, hopefully I put it together right after my detail cleaning. It functions fine on snap caps, and I was VERY careful so I feel pretty good about it.

Does Walther not support these older models any more?
I had a problem with my P22 a while back, and they fixed it for free.

After 50 rounds at the range I had about the same number of problems as I did before I ripped it apart for cleaning and lubricating. I'm at the point of diminishing returns on my time on this one. I do belive I must turn this one over to a pro. Thanks a bunch for the helpful recommendations and interest.

Sorry for the bad news Led. Yeah maybe just bite the bullet, (sorry for the bad pun), and send the thing to a pro. I enjoy carrying mine, even just purchased a Galco executive shoulder holster for it.

David, love you to death my friend but I also was taken aback from the rolling eyes. Did appear snippy. And that isn't you, me maybe but not you

Oh and please tell MJ I can't afford making her crack. I'm going thru 3 + cakes a week!!!

Well I have to say the rolling eyes were meant for myself. They didn't have a smiley face slapping his forehead. I'll never use any of those avatars again I swear.
Oh and during the summer we go thru 2 A DAY around here.

You are one of the really helpful people around here. I never saw any rolling eyes. I wouldn't have thought anything of it if I had.

That's what I load in mine when I carry David, (also in my .40 S&W's). But so far it has eaten up anything I've feed it.
And no worries at all! Part of the problem with just the written word. But I like the idea of a smiley smacking it's forehead

LOLOL good one!

Of course I can hear you saying, in that deep sexy baritone voice of yours... "Sorry I assumed it was a clean gun" sarcastically to yourself. Wait that sounds like a man crush. Never mind you suck

You cat's are a hoot. I had a box of Federal white box, and about 25 Federal Hydra-Shocks that I went through last night and had the same issue. I have not shot Silvertips particularly, and I couldn't find them last night as ammo is skinny on the ground right now. The hydra shocks were the only thing hotter than the white box stuff I could come up with.

I just want to add, that I was thrown by the eye-roll myself. We were in fact talking about a "clean gun" to the degree of field stripping it and CLP + toothbrush clean. Not spotless, but pretty good. I also want to add that so far as I am concerned, I am a little embarrassed by the whole thing and I have made a sincere apology via PM.

It was also a dead reliable pistol with any kind of ammo I ran through it for a looooong time before this cropped up. I know you are a busy guy David, but would you be interested in working on this as a paid gig at whatever your shop rate is? PM me if you want to talk about it, otherwise I'll seek out a Walther expert.

For grins, and just to show how sexy and classic the lines of it are, here is a photo of the offending Walther.

I just checked the Walther website and it looks like all of the support for the PPKS goes through someone in Arkansas now.

Here is the phone contact info : (479)242-8500, ext 7.

Here is the online form for customer support if you would rather contact them that way:
Customer Support - Walther Arms

I would be very surprised if they didn't fix this for you at little or no charge. It is not an unknown issue with these guns.

Beautiful grips Led, Hogues? I had a set of smooth Hogues on my West German made Walther & loved them. Grips are limited on the Smith made Walthers but I believe Hogue does made them for the S&W's.

Not having one in front of me, I would also be suspect of any springs in the action, i.e., sear, disconnector, etc.

David, is that the one you procured at the shop? Or do you have mutiple PP's, (that you'd just love to sale to a friend)?

I told you about the one I missed by 10 minutes cuz of a car accident delay
