Whats with the paint around the front of the doors/rocker panels?

Nice looking car.

The perfect Ferrari imho. The look. The noise. I have yet to ride in one but I had a long talk with Newman of fchat fame at a gathering when he brought his red one.

Mistaking facts blatantly.

Your reputation as what?? An amateur mechanic? I have no idea what your qualifications are, so I cannot comment on them one way or the other. All we have to go on is your own bragging.

You are worried about my assumption that you do not work on cars, based on photos and stories of other guys over at your place working on your cars. It doesn't matter. This is the internet. And when you make personal attacks on me, you can kiss my ass. I'm not impressed with your high-signing and I'm not your friend.

not paint but just some race tape I put there before driving it. I don't want to get rock chips from road debris.

Just to be clear, this is the guy who wants an apology for suggesting that he does not work on cars much.

What I will do is apologize to everyone else on this thread for any rudeness displayed by me. Not to 126coupe, but anyone else. I don't see myself as a bully, Don Davis, but I don't take schit off of anyone in real life or in print. This is a great board and there are mostly cool people here, (many departed), and a few jag-offs, IMO.

I even apologize to javadog for my smartass comeback, you are a valuable member with lots to contribute. I think that I'm plenty nice to nice people, both online and in person. I was raised OK.

We're a bunch of guys, and gals who like cars and talking about them. Some of us like to work on them, apparently 126 does. We are also a very diverse and large group with many different backgrounds and other interests and talents. Most of us don't know all that much about each other besides what we choose to share here. I'm going to try to tone down and hold off commenting on contentious threads here in the new year, maybe even spend less time online. Life is short and I have plenty to do out in the world still. :)

for the record I understood where you were coming from. for someone to globally state a car is garbage without any basis other than working on one possibly neglected example...not cool. the 355 is know to be an expensive car to service as are many Ferraris. they are big boy cars and require a well heeled owner...keeping them in fine fettle can be a commitment to say the least. the 355 is often considered the LAST pretty Ferrari and is known to be fast and have a howl that is very unique or even chilling!!!

again...I understood your position and agree that your basis as an owner should trump that of a non owner.

speeder 12-27-2013 04:51 PM

Pete, I don't own one but another member here does. I just thought that his was an uninformed opinion.

it was an uninformed opinion yes. well sorted and maintained 355's are lovely...especially the gtb's!!!

with headers and an ss exhaust, they sound insane!!!

Embraer 12-27-2013 05:00 PM

...I just fab'd up a new exhaust system for mine. I'm up to 4 exhaust systems for it. Factory Challenge, Stock, Tubi, and now...my own creation. I'll post of vids soon. The new one is the loudest, rawest one so far.

and yes...the 355 at 8500rpm is like no other sound. :)

Yeah, bullies are always nice guys, just attacked and getting schit from others.

What a friggin' joke. You were and are being purposefully obtuse.

Embraer 12-27-2013 05:26 PM

I still don't think mark really works on his cars. his posts allude to lots of check writing. but that's fine, to each his own.

Not sure what your problem with me is but please take it elsewhere. When did we meet?

Thanks for posting photos of your Boxer. One of my all-time favorite cars. I've never seen one in the flesh, but I see that you're probably at least part time in Charlotte, so maybe we can cross paths some day.

Just showing some "Boxer ignorance" here... what is the purpose of that extra tail light outboard of the exhaust?

Fog lights.

speeder 12-28-2013 05:42 AM

Yes. That is a photo of a European rear fog light. Other ROW cars of the era have them, including 911s, just not so elegantly fitted.

Wrong….. I am restoring a 1969 911S Targa, getting dirty, but I am fortunate enough to sub out things nowadays.

you did that yourself by your comments about German engineering vs Italian engineering. which i accurately summed up in this post responding to you:

as much as i like german cars more then italian ones, "german engineering" is worth dick. its worth a **** ton of headaches and "why the **** would they ever do this?"

javadog 12-28-2013 09:33 AM

I would argue that point you make about German engineering. If you compare it to other countries, it's not bad. I've seen firsthand what the USA, Japan and all the countries in Europe could produce and they all had their moments. Germany was nowhere near the bottom of the list.

Don't confuse engineering with production methods, any decision ever made by a beancounter, styling, etc.
