Are German pots and kettles more reliable than the Italian ones?
Why do people even buy the Italian ones -- are they more exciting to cook with or what? |

the boxers are leaving the ranks of cheap and are fast moving to $200k for the 512's and the 365 is well beyond $300k for clean cars. tervren has ridden in mine...I think he enjoyed the car! pcb |

patently incorrect. I have owned my full eurospec boxer for over 11 years and have been to hendrick motorsports race shop and weighed the car next to a tr...my boxer was approx. 200lbs lighter. fact. bb is skinned in aluminum where the tr is steel. that has some bearing. |
|
I will say that I am a big fan of the tr and believe it to be a proper Ferrari...one of the last in fact. good tr's are on the rise too and they should not be considered $40-50k cars...really good ones are well north of that and rising.

The TR is aluminum as well; they just used steel for the roof skin and doors, for safety. Regardless, a Boxer was more a piece of art, still with individual differences from one example to the next in the manner of the Ferraris of the past, and a TR was what I think was the first really modern car Ferrari had built, built in large numbers and mostly the same from one to the next. I've watched this thread from the first day. I should prob get my 10 foot pole and continue "not touching" this thread, but I can't help myself.
From the beginning, Mark expressed admiration for older F-cars. His first statement, actually. Go back and look. It's not edited. Then he ripped on some newer stuff. So what? Big deal. Then Mike chimed in with counter-point. All good stuff, IMO. speeder is just pissing on this thread like he does quite often. Yes, Denis, I said it. You're either carrying over some issue from other threads toward Mark, or you're just being a "deeck" ( to borrow some or your vernacular ). Chill out, bro. You're sounding a lot like a bully and I know you ( a little ) shook your hand, traded PM over the years and generally enjoy your input. I've met Mark and shook his hand, too. Good dude with a square head on his shoulders. I'm certain ( without a doubt ) I'd enjoy any day wrenching with anyone on this thread. I want to visit Mark's man-cave and tinker. I'd like to meet Mike and poke around his 355, do some maintenance on his rig and go for a ride. Then I'd like to putz around with Denis on a W123 diesel. Can't we just sit back and take other's opinions for what they are... opinions. Not attacks, fer chrissakes ( another Denis-ism ) |

There's plenty to like about a Boxer. I just wouldn't want to have to keep looking for the parts nobody has. Sooner or later, everybody loses that lottery and has to break out the wallet.
FWIW, I think Ferrari listed the difference in weight between a Euro and US TR at 340 pounds. No, that is not a typo... JR |

Yeah, I know. I figured yours was not a converted car, so comparing its weight against a US TR was going to be a little too much apples to oranges. I'd wager that there's more than a few legalized Boxers that have been converted back. And that's the way they all should have been. Adding the crash/safety crap was pointless on any limited production car. If you crashed a Boxer, it wasn't going to be a little love tap in the parking lot. My LP400 had exactly zero crash protection and your feet were not very far from the scene of the crash, should you be so foolish as to wad one up.

and by the way the lp400 was and remains one of the great and important sportscars of all time...bar none!!!! |

You are worried about my assumption that you do not work on cars, based on photos and stories of other guys over at your place working on your cars. It doesn't matter. This is the internet. And when you make personal attacks on me, you can kiss my ass. I'm not impressed with your high-signing and I'm not your friend. |

What I will do is apologize to everyone else on this thread for any rudeness displayed by me. Not to 126coupe, but anyone else. I don't see myself as a bully, Don Davis, but I don't take schit off of anyone in real life or in print. This is a great board and there are mostly cool people here, (many departed), and a few jag-offs, IMO. I even apologize to javadog for my smartass comeback, you are a valuable member with lots to contribute. I think that I'm plenty nice to nice people, both online and in person. I was raised OK. We're a bunch of guys, and gals who like cars and talking about them. Some of us like to work on them, apparently 126 does. We are also a very diverse and large group with many different backgrounds and other interests and talents. Most of us don't know all that much about each other besides what we choose to share here. I'm going to try to tone down and hold off commenting on contentious threads here in the new year, maybe even spend less time online. Life is short and I have plenty to do out in the world still. :) |

again...I understood your position and agree that your basis as an owner should trump that of a non owner. |
Pete, I don't own one but another member here does. I just thought that his was an uninformed opinion.

with headers and an ss exhaust, they sound insane!!! |
...I just fab'd up a new exhaust system for mine. I'm up to 4 exhaust systems for it. Factory Challenge, Stock, Tubi, and now...my own creation. I'll post of vids soon. The new one is the loudest, rawest one so far.
and yes...the 355 at 8500rpm is like no other sound. :) |

What a friggin' joke. You were and are being purposefully obtuse. |
I still don't think mark really works on his cars. his posts allude to lots of check writing. but that's fine, to each his own.

Just showing some "Boxer ignorance" here... what is the purpose of that extra tail light outboard of the exhaust? |

Yes. That is a photo of a European rear fog light. Other ROW cars of the era have them, including 911s, just not so elegantly fitted.

I would argue that point you make about German engineering. If you compare it to other countries, it's not bad. I've seen firsthand what the USA, Japan and all the countries in Europe could produce and they all had their moments. Germany was nowhere near the bottom of the list.
Don't confuse engineering with production methods, any decision ever made by a beancounter, styling, etc. JR |
