Yes and no.
Got out in December. Paid cap gains. A lot of cap gains.

Got back in heavily at about 2x where it is now at the start of the year. Silly me. Succumbed to FOMO.

On paper I’m down more than I care to admit in the public domain, but since I didn’t max out credit cards or borrow against the house I’m fairly sanguine. I still think it’ll come back.

Paid one of my guys $20k for a gig right around a year and a bit ago.

He got into Crypto.

Beginning of the year had North of $400k.

He hung in too long and dropped to $90K or so.

4+x's return was still not bad for 6 ish months.

He texted me last week looking for more work.

The new Venezuelan peso might have better growth opportunities than Bitcoin.

Still cant buy much of anything with it. I know if I looked I could find something to buy with BC, But I NEVER see it in use in day to day purchases. Calling it a currency is a joke. Tulips anyone?

I always wondered about the real usefulness of bitcoin or any crypto currency. I do not and have no plans to start buying anything like military weapons, diamonds, human slaves, or the stuff like I see in the movies.

I do understand investments, but I like to understand just what my investment is. Stocks are cryptic enough. I avoid derivatives and other sketchy investments.

Good luck with investing in bitcoin. I will stick to more traditional items. Real estate and equipment for my business.

I'm glad I can finally buy a good GPU for half the price they were last year. Miners are liquidating on ebay. Still waiting for RAM prices to drop.

Why would miners use GPU ?
Solving crypto does not involve graphics.

Can you post a link of an item that has come down in price?

It's high end cards. I tried to buy a GTX 1070 last year & couldn't find one under $700. I just picked up a MSI Armour GTX 1070ti, which is a better card, for under $300. This LINK might explain it.

Graphics is data.

But not all data is the same.

Think all poodles are dogs but not all dogs are poodles.

GPU's have 100's of cores and can handle multiple x's as many threads..

They excel at performing repetitive calculations on large data sets.

It's basically a computational workhorse which is a different task than what a CPU is expected to do.

Bitcoin, any of the crypto currency is the currency for illegal goods and services.
Bubble or not. There's still a need for it, and will stabilize to a reasonable amount.

This is textbook investor behavior.
Did you lose most of the initial profits when you doubled down at a "discount" ?

True, but taxes are not an asset unless you're the government.

sure does use graphic cards many rigs for mining use up to 8 high end graphics cards
per cpu to do block chains to earn bitcoins

and many miners use many such rigs
so they both drove up prices and limited supply
