An amazing video - Kevin Richardson's passions for lions

To connect with an animal is to connect with everything that is good in this world.....

Amazing footage. I'm all for exploring and learning about animals. But when these types tempt fate and the inevitable occurs, no one should be surprised.

And no one should claim it's a "tragedy" either.

How completely, utterly irresponsible. Nothing good can possibly come of behavior like this. Those lions and hyenas are clearly very socialized, but even then, things can go wrong, terribly wrong, in one hell of a hurry.

Does anyone here realize that Elsa killed and partially devoured one of the camp cooks during the filming of Born Free? Didn't think so... Or that her son, then living inside the boundaries of Kruger National Park, killed several people driving by in an open top Rover one day? The chief warden was driving, his wife riding shotgun (too bad she didn't actually have one...), and either their son or daughter in the back with their fiance. I can't remember which of this lot he killed, but it was three out of four.

Back before the days of video tape and DVD's, there was a Super 8 film making the rounds. Some guy was traveling Africa, filming its various fauna for a documentary. He was doing it solo. So he sets up his tripod, starts filming a resting pride of lions, steps in front of the camera, and tries to explain to his future viewers how safe and docile they actually are. He walks right up to them, talking back to the camera. He wound up recording his own death, and the pride feeding on him to boot. Great film.

So now we see yet another clown cuddling these dangerous, unpredictable animals and everyone whose knowledge of them was gleaned by watch Walt Disney is all giddy. How long until this fool goes the way of Timothy Treadwell? How long before one of his adoring fans tries to emulate him and pays the ultimate price?

Until that connection turns into a connection of the reconstituted kind as you are digesting inside the animal.

Can't fix stupid! The uneducated continually try to apply human emotion and logic to animals. Cute for a while...then someone gets mauled.

He is willing to take the risk.
He has a message. No more(African) wild cats in 20 years.
None.

Some where there is a happy medium...
Its romantic to think of being at one with nature.
and not so romantic to be so blind as to pull a "Treadwell."
Animals can be acclimated ..not always so predictable

All the Richardsons and Treadwells? Why bother? Their cuddly little play toys eventually see to that.

Agreed Don. And the same goes for skiing in avalanche territory, swimming with sharks etc. A serious pet peeve of mine when someone dies in these circumstances and it's called a tragedy.

Baz great vid. Thanks for sharing.
