Saw, American Made today. About the early 80s in Central America. Smuggling drugs and guns. Not great but entertaining on a freezing snowy day. Tom Cruise plays a sort of likable bad guy.

The movie leaves out a lot. I read this before seeing the movie and was astounded about all that was involved at that time. Shaun Attwood has some great other stories he writes about.

Watched the second half of this one tonight and just ordered the DVD.....freaking hilarious!

I had never even heard of it until tonight - although I do have both 'Chicken Run' and 'Wallace and Grommit: The Curse of the Were Rabbit'.....now I will have 3 Aardman animation movies for my library... :)

I was around in those days. It seems like the CIA had its fingers in a lot of pies. The extent of what went on is insane. I just look at the movie as entertainment. Not a documentary. If I thought I'd take the time to read it I think I'd like that book.http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

I also watched the Wonder Woman movie last night. First 10 minutes was boring but it picked up the pace and got better. Fun typical super hero movie.

The older Wallace and Gromit's are the best, in my opinion. True stop motion claymations with a lot of warmth and charm. The Wrong Trousers is my favorite, and Creature Comforts is great, too.

Thanks for the head's up, Steve. I just ordered both of those from eBay for my collection.

Cool! I think there were three original Wallace and Gromits- consider getting A Grand Day Out and A Close Shave. Nick Park is one of my favorite artists. You can see his work in the old Chevron talking car commercials, which had the same style.

A taste. (One of my dogs was a Gromit namesake).

I really liked that one. Better than expected. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/suppo...s/beerchug.gif

I always thought The Man Who Fell to Earth was excellent science fiction, actually a "realistic" concept with some cool ideas. Over 40 years old now, not high budget, but David Bowie's first movie role.

Saw "Three Billboards" last night. Frances McDormand and Woody Harrelson oughta get Academy awards for their work in that one...fantastic film, with one exception: The last scene of felt like there might have been a committee decision, rather than the director or the writer. (I'm probably wrong, what do I know?

We saw Darkest Hour Saturday afternoon. Incredibly well done, and everything you've heard about Oldman's performance is true... a stunning portrayal.

Best film I've seen in a long time. 10/10 Will buy the DVD.

Steve Carlton 01-22-2018 05:27 AM

Huge Oldman fan here. I thought he was awesome in Hannibal as Mason Verger and Bram Stoker's Dracula as Dracula. I read Churchill's family was very pleased with his portrayal in Darkest Hour. I liked that movie a lot as well.
