Selling my Ducati......Maybe
So lately I been thinking about selling my Paul Smart. I have 9 bikes and have been thinking about selling off a couple and putting the cash toward another car which I really don't need.
The question is what do you guys think is the best way to sell it? One of my friends says to put it completely back to stock and sell the extras separately. He thinks that more people would want it stock, it will sell quicker and if I sell the parts separate, could make more money. The exhaust and chip alone are worth over $1500. I think that the mods on the bike are the typical Ducati mods, Termi pipe, belt covers and vented clutch and won't make that much difference. I also think that having the factory lowers on it makes it more desirable, of course I have all the original parts. The original exhaust only has a about 500 miles on it. I also have a new in the box upper fairing that I bought years ago after my bike fell over onto a bookcase in the garage. It put a minor crack in the fairing about an inch long between the mirror and the windscreen. I put a piece of black tape on it when waiting for the new piece to show up, then decided to leave it on in case something really noticeable happened to it......that was about 6 years ago. So, what do you guys think is the best way to sell it. The bike was purchased new at Pro Italia and they are very interested in consigning it, but I know I'm giving up some cash for their convenience

that is a very cool machine. among the easiest bikes to sell in my opinion. try e-bay and see what activity you generate. I would place a reserve that you can reconcile and put it up for 10 days. you may be surprised at the result. alternatively, consider having pro italia consign the bike. they will get all the money and manage the process. it will cost you 5 percent for the trouble.
I have 3 bikes left. I think of selling at times but they take up little space and I would miss them if they were gone I don't know what your collection looks like but the smart is a very cool vintage bike with some chops! you may want to keep that one ![]() best, pcb |

oh and yes, if you do decide to sell, by all means put the stock parts back on. the termignoni pipes are as rare as hens teeth these days. they will bring full retail...even in used but like new condition!

Agree with Pete...but I'd swap the upper, you can sell the slightly damaged upper for close to what the perfect one cost.
Check out ebay fees-between that and the hassle, ProItalia is likely a good call, and give the traffic that the bike will generate for them, they might cut a sweetheart. PS values are out thee now, not sure that they're going a whole lot higher, but who knows? Were Smart's immune to the tank issues?

I had an 06 sport and always liked the PS.
Have you seeing the market on them? I'd try Ducati.ms. At a minimum, use the site for price info but you're probably looking at selling close to 17k+. |

Nope, these also had the tank issues. I had the tank replaced several years ago and it was coated before a drop of gas was ever put thru it. I haven't had any issues with the replacement tank bulging or spreading.
So. You guys think take the bike back to completely stock, then sell everything separately or offer to sell the parts to a potential buyer. Lowers too. Some things you can get rid of and your alright with it. I've mentally divorced myself from my early 911 and will be selling it in the next 6 months or so, but I don't think I'm quite there with this bike and would regret it later.....My fiance says I'm crazy and should keep it. I used to go to Ducati.MS quite a bit, I'll go poke my nose around there and take a look.

That's a once-in-a-lifetime bike. I say, keep it. You'd never regret that decision.

Michael- Cool ride. I can't tell you what to do but only from my experience. If its something you really liked and sell it, someday you're going to regret selling it. Try and safely stash it out of sight and oddly say, forget of it. Do that and you'll be smiling many years down the road.

I think that the lowers are worth some money, outside of that, most of the mods are probably worth .50-.70 on the dollar. Give the option to someone to buy it modded, pain in the ass to replace parts.
Price it high, if it goes...then it does. Otherwise, keep it. Why no full ZARDS? I had a set on mine, god...greatest sound ever. |

![]() If there is some doubt, some hesitation, and you have the room and don't need the money, why sell? Every time I have found myself in this position and sold, I've regretted it. Every time.

Perhaps the best piece of advice I have ever been given, by my architecture mentor many, many years ago, the great Al Bodinger:
"Never make a tough decision".

Ergo, the decision to not making a decision is actually making a decision.
I think I got that right.

I think slodave's trying to end my marriage by informing me of this thread...
Those are all tasteful and desired mods, so keeping them on the bike won't detract from their value. You have the originals, after all, for a collector who wants a museum piece. You'll make more money by putting the bike back to stock and selling off the individual mods, but it'll be more of a hassle. What's that worth to you? I buddy sold his 600-mile PS last year and offered it to me. I passed, and I think he wound up selling it for $12K. I think he could have sold it for more, but what do I know? Craigslist, ebay, Ducati.ms are all options. Heck, what ever happened to motion's bike site?

Well I'm thinking I'm gonna hang on to it... Not really ready to part with it.
FYI, it would take a little more then 12K.
