How does the air know what to do with that mess up front which sort of looks like a stacked wing?

From 2010, McLaren the only ones with a "low nose".

The low nose

The high nose

Wow... talk about unintended consequences... I am SHOCKED at how ugly the new noses are! I may have to follow the season over the radio!

When I was little, and I would see a picture of a race car, or a hot rod my heart would skip a beat, and I'd stare at those pictures for hours reveling in the beauty of the details.

(This would have been early to mid sixties when I was say five or six years old.)

Do little kids do this with modern cars? If they do, great! If they don't, well, not surprising.

For me too, until recently (several years) F1 cars were a thing of beauty. Now, not so much.

Wind tunnels and engineers don't care about pretty. I think its beauty is in the technical detail, but I'm also an engineer.

I don't blame the engineers at all, it's the crazy rules officials come up with which produces such results.

The rules are designed to challenge the designers, not to make a better mouse trap.

If the laws of nature were left to rule, trust me they would be things of beauty like they were in the early 1970's.

The new noses look oddly and variangly clitoral. And the rear and side pods of the McLaren look chunky. I predict they will not be fast.

They might set records for down-force though. At least within the crazy rules they have managed to set up and sanction.

For those into bikes, the Specialized Venge collaboration with McLaren. Word is McLaren approached them for contract work. They're amazing up close. Subtle aero work details might not seem much but pays big for the pros.

Why even show up? They should just hand the trophy to Vettel right now.

Because it has an asymmetric split-nose design......
