Ever Have A Technical Garment Repaired?

Anyone had luck having a new zipper sewn into a technical jacket?

I've never tried having a sports garment repaired, I just replace them. But this is a great jacket, no longer made, no equivalent jacket out there.

(A Burley bike rain jacket, the thing I love is it does NOT use "breathable" fabric, the material is flat out waterproof and totally impervious, and the jacket relies on large zippered vents to breathe, as a result I can stand in the shower in this thing and stay dry. Company is out of business. The main front zipper is wearing out, it is a "sealed" zipper w/ the rubber lips covering the zipper teeth. I wear it every day.)

Wow, you must sweat like a pig in that thing.

Sorry I can't be of much help, but I have sent an old down jacket with zipper issue back to North Face and they repaired it. I wonder if they would perform the repair on someone's jacket? They should know a thing or two about waterproofing jackets. Maybe REI can help somehow?

Pigs don't really sweat. They only have a few sweat glands and they are not for temperature control. They wallow in the mud to stay cool.

It has huge zippered underarm vents (18" long) and a huge back vent, which work well. This is a jacket for constant, heavy rain. I've never found a better choice for daily commuting here. When Burley went out of business, I should have bought an extra.

Find your local guy who makes boat canopies and such...He will have the tools and products you need to do this. I had it done on a wet suit by our local guy.

EDIT: Hopefully he will have what you need!!!!

Pataguchi repairs everything for free or nearly so - maybe they should be your next best friend provider?

for now, call REI there and ask who they use to do repairs in town for them

I understand that completely. I had a Descente jacket that I wore for at least 15 years...

If you do choose to replace the jacket now or in the future, the Showers Pass (a PDX company) makes very good jackets. I bought one of their early models, circa 1998 or 1999 and it's still in regular use. Excellent product.

They do! - but they are using all "breathable" fabrics - I am just not down on breathable fabrics for a heavy rain commute jacket. I want impervious!!!

Problem is that coat zips are all different lengths, hence are special order(ie no repair shop keeps all the possible lengths in stock) so they are expensive and have a long delivery time.At least thats the case here in the UK(and I own a canvas working shop)
