Indian food is awesome!
Tried some for the very first time today. Chicken Masala, lamb curry and yellow rice. I was afraid of the heat but it was just fine. All taste and not too spicy. Looking forward to trying more dishes.

saag paneer is a good dish too, spinach and cheese.
Also, chicken makhani is to die for, but you'll need a nice nap afterward.

Wow, your first taste of an incredibly diverse cuisine.... recommend you find a well reviewed Indian restaurant (as with other ethnic restaurants, watch for people of that ethnicity actually eating there) and try as much as you can. Keep in mind that India is huge and the cuisine very different from area to area, and many restaurants specialize in one type eg northern indian meat-heavy foods.
FWIW I am writing to you from Chennai, about to dig into a breakfast of idli (little fluffy rice-based pancakes) and some dosa masala (a thin crispy pancake made of fermented lentil, folded around a filling of potato and onion).

I like some Indian food, but the oils they use is heavy and tend to prefer Thai coconut curry. I do love Tandoori Chicken!

That would be Ghee. It is clarified butter.

Did you just move here from TX? WTF?
![]() I love it too. Especially if you want to eat vegetarian. They can really make vegetables taste good. Of course their cuisine is far from healthy, especially the tasty stuff. That said, I get tired of it quickly. I could not eat it every day. Dishes resemble each other and the spices (not necessarily the peppers) are over the top after a while. I live in the South SF bay. It is a province of India. So I can enjoy a lot of authentic and inexpensive joints in walking distance from my home. Just like any other cuisine, there is an Americanized version and authentic stuff. G Last edited by aigel; 02-23-2014 at 07:42 PM.. |

India is a big place and the food vastly differs between regions. (Very) generally speaking the hotter the province the hotter the food.
I mostly eat Malaysian Indian food. Try some if you can. It's awesome good. Check this out - you eat it with a Malay chicken curry https://www.google.co.nz/search?q=malaysian+roti+canai+recipe&espv=210&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=BcwKU6XhH8GMkAWX-YCYBA&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1536&bih=860 Also Indian food should be cheap. The best stuff is street hawker food ![]() |

Too late! I broke into the doggie bag from lunch. Self control isn't one of my strengths.

LOL!
I once observed a fat lady at a Chinese restaurant. Starting her meal, she took half the chow mein and put it in a to-go box. She ate the other half off her plate. After finishing her plate she sat there for a few minutes in conversation as the server cleaned the plates. Another few minutes passed and she started to eat out of the to-go box. First a few forks full, then more, it was gone in 5 minutes! ![]() When I order chow mein, I don't even try ... G |
