Seattle (Bellevue) PPI recommendations

Hi Seattle Pelicans,

I'm looking for a good shop to perform a PPI on a Boxster S that I am interested in as a daily driver. TIA.

I had my car inspected at Gerber when I was the seller. I felt like their inspection was detailed and fair. Mark their service manager is good people.

Is the car at Park Place? Do a search here if so.

Another vote for Gerber Motorsport since JWW won't touch it.

Whatever you do, stay away from Squire's Belleuve. He's an azzhole. See Yelp Bellevue for details

i went to chris in bellevue and the inspection did help me with negotiating the car price down 15% but there were two items that i mentioned i already knew about that were wrong with the car, i didn't ask for what it might be, power seat didn't move fore and aft and the pax power door locks inop. anyways they ended up looking at it and charged me about $100 extra for inop issues and although i paid it, they were dead wrong. the seat they said was the motor, turned out to be the switch and the door lock wasn't a solenoid and turned out be the linkage. oh well, the ppi itself was done well.

I'll put in a plug for my buddy Monty at Redmond European. Honest and knowledgeable.

PS where exactly is the car located? What part of town?

that might be a relevant question to the conversation.

Question PPI and dealer in Seattle

This is a super useful thread for me, as I have made an offer contingent on a a positive PPI. 67 912 Its the model which I have been searching for (ok I've looked at 356s too).

The car is at New & Used Porsche Used Cars For Sale Seattle 98107 Bellevue Mercer Island WA - Auto Connections Seattle

Does anyone have experience with these guys?

I am looking for a weekend/short tour car in sufficiently good shape that I won't be quickly having major work done and that has upside potential if I choose to restore it further at some point in the future.

My main question for forum members is

Has anyone had a recent PPI done at one of the shops recommended in this thread? What did the report contain?

I know that Pelican has a PPI checklist

http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/images/misc/PrepurchaseChecklist.pdf

so one response could be

"the items on the checklist minus these items plus these items"

thanks in advance

As I mentioned previously, I have had all PPI's done by Monty at Redmond European. He does the whole enchilada--including a leakdown and compression test. Another good shop is Chris' German Auto (in Bellevue), and there are plenty of others--Seattle has a lot of Porsches. I've just always used Monty. No affiliation, etc., though he has become a friend.

I haven't heard of that dealer, but I'd be happy to look the car over for you and arrange the PPI. I'm confused at the Leary Way address/Mercer Island/Bellevue connection, because Leary Way is in the heart of downtown Seattle, and Mercer Island is, well, an island in the middle of Lake Washington--it's a whole different city. Bellevue is further still to the east. I suspect the car is consigned to Auto Connections and maybe spent its life either on Mercer Island or in Bellevue. 98107 is a the proper Seattle zip code for where Auto Connections is. Maybe the dealer just thought he'd catch a wider swath of people by advertising to those Bellevue and Mercer Island, which are the high-end burbs.

Let me know if I can help.

Terry

John Walker is the best there is IMHO. He's air cooled only.

Good suggestion. I have never dealt with him, but he's got a great rep. Also a cranky old cuss. The two often go hand in hand.

I've had John work on my cars. You can expect A) 100% honesty B) Absurdly deep knowledge of air cooled P-cars, and C) Sufficient verbal spice to make his point.

I swear, I would bring the car in for X, and X would be done, and I paid for X. But he would say, 'Well, there was some other little stuff off that I poked around with", and I swear the car ran 100% better, but it had nothing to do with X. His reputation is earned.

Wait, wait - cranky old cuss, you say? Well, damn, I need to take my car there RIGHT NOW. I LOVE a shop where the head guy is a cranky old cuss. Those shops are always the best shops. I love talking sh!!t with a guy like that.

Always reminds me of my dad. Also was a cranky old cuss. Guys like that make me feel right at home.
