F1 Melbourne Grand Prix

They are showing FP1 on NBC Sports.

Not much running going on so far. Lewis' car had to be towed back into the pits and Vettel hasn't run yet. In the quest of being green, they have really screwed up the powertrains. You can hardly hear them at all on the NBC feed.

This will be a long season for the teams. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.

Kudos to NBC for showing FP1.

Lucky you. Australia is just over there ┐ and nothing on the TV, I call it the rugby news and it seems everything is about rugby and cricket.

I had a bit of a walk around the track an month or two ago when they were setting it up. What a great place for it. It adds a bit of flavor to it being street.

They sound like some high school kid in a Honda Civic with a fart can muffler.

I still remember going to the inaugural Formula One race in Indianapolis. I couldn't wait to hear the cars in person for the first time during practice. The magic is gone.

+1 what a snoozer. I turned it off after 15 minutes. The drivers sitting around looked as bored as I was.

I was at the track today and its hard to believe the change in sound on the new cars. Everyone there I was talking to (just spectators) was very disappointed.

I was not trackside when P2 started but the guy I was talking to couldn't believe it when I said the cars were on their second session. He thought the sound from the track was some small open wheel category.

He contrast was highlighted when they did the speed comparison: C63 v V8 Supercar v F1. It was obviously a previous year car as it sounded right - loud and aggressive.

Agreed! Almost sounds like the engines are lugging, but I know better.

It is not a muffler, it is the turbocharger that makes it quiet. I hate the new sound.

Well I lucked out.

I can actually watch the gp at a decent time of day. Bring in the eastern hemisphere sure has it's benefits!

Go kimi go!

Wow, that was too cool hearing all that crowd noise for Ricardo at the end of Q3 as he was crushing that last lap to (momentarily) get TQ... and kudos to Hamilton for nicking him seconds later. This should be good.

The cars sound crap. The V8 Supercars that race here sound better. I remember being at the Adelaide GP in the 80's and the noise of the turbo cars then was ear shattering. A R1 Yamaha with a Akrapovic muffler sounds better now. I feel that F1 being the pinnacle of motorsport, the new rules has taken it a step backward. It's a shame.

I suspect that this season will expose Vettel for what he truly is.

Without the advantage of best car on the grid, he's just a very average driver, imo.

It was a great qualifying. Nice to see the new guy teach Seb a lesson on how to drive.

Red Bull will probably make them swap cars. Webber never seemed to get the reliable fast car.

Silly in the extreme
One race does not a season make. I'll save these two rediculous posts for the end of the year....hahahahahah.

Huge blow for Daniel as he has been disqualified for a fuel flow violation

I can't wait to hear the conspiracy theories surrounding this DQ.

What is the purpose of the FIA mandating a maximum fuel flow? They've capped the amount of fuel the teams can use, so I don't see any reason behind it.
