Stupidity know no bounds.

Police Dashcam: Cops Gone Wild - YouTube

Happened upon this video. The level of stupid on display here is mind boggling. How a minor traffic stop escalates into this situation beggars belief. Im referring to the woman driving the people mover, not the police.

And then to attempt a high speed runner with loaded mini bus full of children...incredible.

However- imho- the police should have called off the chase. She could've killed herself, her kids and some poor schmuck driving down the road. They knew who she was, they had the film. Pick her up quietly and hour later when the situation had defused.

Gogar 03-18-2014 05:43 PM

I agree that lady is quite a fool.

I feel that cop #1 was in a pretty tough situation and showed a lot of restraint.

The officer who fired the shots was suspended and (if i recall correctly) later fired.

stuartj 03-18-2014 05:53 PM

Yes. I forgot about the shooting. Its hard to believe that any police firearm policy would sanction firing at a fleeing target that is posing no imminent threat to life. Let alone a van full of kids.

azasadny 03-18-2014 06:02 PM

The cop should have shot her... Good thing I'm not a cop, I cannot deal with idiots like that...

cstreit 03-18-2014 06:05 PM

I don't think he explained it well, at first I didn't get it until I realized that you can plead guilty now and pay... ...or go to court. You were just cited for breaking the law.

It was clear she kept hoping he would let her off... She also did not want to accept that driving away meant she was going in. How about the cop shooting at the car as she drove off the second time, what was that for?. That was over the top.
Once it escalated so fast when the guy got out and started swinging (boy was that dumb) I think she freaked out. She drove into the next public building she could find and surrendered. She certainly made a LOT of bad decisions hoping to de-escalate but the cop wouldn't budge enough to her liking.

Still...Shooting was NOT justified there and the other cop was out of line too don't you think?

azasadny 03-18-2014 06:11 PM

The guy who tried to take the officer's gun should have been shot, too...This just pisses me off...

nynor 03-18-2014 06:15 PM

OMG! that was just like the keystone cops!

HardDrive 03-18-2014 06:28 PM

The original arresting officer cop should have shot her son dead. The woman should write a letter thanking the officers for their professional conduct, and their admirable show of restraint.

A position difficult for a nutless Limey to get his head around.

I think a year or two in jail should fix it. She was crazy.

HHI944 03-18-2014 06:37 PM

The lady deserves a swift kick in the face....as does the jerk off who opened fire on the car....
The original arresting officer appeared to handle things pretty well though.

URY914 03-18-2014 06:49 PM

Why do some people think the laws don't apply to them? She couldn't make a decision, so she thought it was alright to drive off.

When the kid came out of the van the first time, Cop should have made the kid get on the ground at gun point and cuff him.

In your boundless enthusiasm to attempt insult, you may have inadvertently neglected to read the OP.

The cop did a lousy job of explaining her options. We all have the right to legal council and he didn't mention lawyer once. I'm still wondering if the way he explained it to her was correct. Your only options are plead guilty immediately or go to court? You can't discuss it with your atty and plead guilty if he says it's the best course of action? I hope it's true that the cop who started shooting at a van full of kids got fired. Kudos to the mom for standing up for herself and to the kid for trying to protect her from an out of control cop trying to drag her out of the safety of her car.

For a $125 fine she sure bought herself a lot of grief. Dumbass. Agreed cop #1 showed a lot of restraint, Cop #2 not so much.

Out of control cop? In the beginning, are you kidding me? Did you actually watch the video? He told her to either sign to pay a ticket or see a judge, she refused to do either.

stealthn 03-18-2014 08:09 PM

Are you serious?!

If that was a guy he would be pulling gravel out of his teeth the first time he didn't respond to get out of your car, or have a bullet in the head....

You always amaze me.

The first cop explained it pretty well, many times, she was the problem, the kid was a problem, she drove like a nut, she should spend a lot of time in jail. My thought was she must have been hiding something, plus she had an expired license that the guy said he was over looking. How many breaks can he give her, just sign the ticket and shut up. Sign the ticket, pay the fine later. or not probably in her case.

MotoSook 03-18-2014 08:18 PM

The dumb 1st cop caused the escalation. Sure the women wasn't smart to do what she did, but I sure as heck have never been asked to plea on the side of the road and pay which is what the lady probably thought. That's illegal in most states. The cop cannot take payment. There's a reason for that.

You acknowledge/sign the citation after the cop tells you your options: admit guilt and send in the payment or appear in court on the date the cop lists on the citation.

It's apparent the cop was not very experienced or sharp.

Some of us speak from experience with our run ins with speed stops. This women and probably most women wouldn't know what to do. They'd panic on some level and with agitated kids and a Gomer cop... Bad combination.

Cop needs more training. Letting a speed stop with a van full of kids escalate like that is poor training retention or poor training. His only good move was not shooting the kid, but I'm sure at that point, particularly since he behaved as if there was no threat and even stated "no gun" when the other officers showed up before one started to bash the window.

Wonder what can on this whole mess?

MotoSook 03-18-2014 08:20 PM

He didn't ask her to sign the ticket.... He told here to choose to pay or go to court.

he told her she had two options, pay the fine or see the judge, HE TOLD HER SHE COULD MAIL THE FINE, later, at 1.41 they started talking about signing the ticket, this came up many times, some people amaze me.

MotoSook 03-18-2014 08:30 PM

He specifically told her she had to choose. That's what cause her to argue with him. He did a poor job explaining her options to her and never once backed up to let her know she didn't have to choose on the spot.
