Weird weather: Rain in Alabama

I just saw a headline that said 20" of rain fell in one day in Gulfport, Alabama.

I'm no climatologist but it sure seems like there is a lot more extreme weather lately and that it's accelerating, not slowing down. Without the usual PARF idiots arguing over climate change, all I want to know is whether this is truly unusual for that region.

I can't even imagine that much rain in one day. Holy shizzle...biblical.

Climate change or not, I enjoyed my unusually mild winter here (we usually get SOME snow--this year, none). Rain has been slightly more than normal, which is good for the desert, and the temperatures have been absolutely blissful.

I remember when I lived on the east coast of FL, we had some biblical-heavy rains from time to time, whenever a tropical storm or hurricane blew through.

When I was working a job in Orlando a bunch of us went to a pub in a local mall, it started to rain just as we got out of the car and made it into the mall. The pub looked out to a little courtyard with a fountain... it rained harder... and harder... then buckets fell from the sky... the fountain and courtyard filled to overflowing... we looked out at the parking lot and there was ten or twelve inches of standing water. Us Cali boys were a little freaked out and I was envisioning spending the night in the mall... the locals just went about their business like nothing was happening.

Rain suddenly stopped and in about fifteen minutes all was clear.

I drove through a storm on Alligator Alley in Florida 5 years ago that produced 9" of rain in one hour. The highway was almost covered with water backing up from the canals (the ones that are filled with gators).

I have been in Athens, Alabama for the last week.

Last three days, not much sleep. 3 sets of batts have gone thru the wx alarm. I got 4+ inches of rain last week in Americus, Georgia. Probably a total of 4 inches this week here. Spent last 8 months prior in Cali or Arizona. Saw 4 or 5 raindrops that entire time.

Will be in South Carolina for the next 3 weeks.

Global warming? Sorry. See your doc and get your meds adjusted.

This normal springtime weather in the Sawth.

Global warming has led to highs in the 50s this week. Normal is 80. Been a super mild spring here, which sucks.

Here the terrible effects of a very harsh last winter are being emeliorated by a very slow spring warm-up. A sudden and dry warm-up or a hard freeze in the next two weeks will devastate the area.

Lots of winter dieback, desiccation with deer and mouse damage to boot.

Some Great Lakes water levels are up 12" from last year and nearing the hundred-year average.

Shipping channel east of the Sault Locks is still almost plugged up with ice.

Not normal, but not unprecedented.

They can't accurately predict if it will rain today. Sorry, but I believe those long term predictions as much as I do the Farmer's Almanac.

A friend of mine that served in Vietnam said it would on occasion rain so hard that even under a shelter it was hard to breath. He said it was like standing under a high pressure shower blasting in your face.
