Worst Storm of the Season

I must confess, I had been rather pleased that, although the winter had been long, the worst storms had missed my little corner of Paradise.

This one has jumped on us with both feet. The weather centre says the barometer dropped 40 millibars in 24 hours. Winds are gusting beyond 60mph and visibility ranges from 20 - 100 yards.
Worst storm of the season and it isn't even winter!

They say of March:"In like a lamb, out like a lion."
I just hope the lion eats the darned groundhog on his way out.

Best

With all the humidity you have in your area, you do get some incredible snowfalls.

Just gusty winds here.
Hope you get through without any damage or loss of power.

As I said, we've been really lucky so far this winter. New England, New Brunswick,PEI & Quebec have all been hammered with snow. I guess it's our turn.

We just came back from looking after the horses in our barn and the in-laws'. Most of my driveway is clear (wind blown), but between the house and barn there was a 2 1/2 foot dep drift. It was bare ground this morning.

Fabric came off a 20x24 foot shelter after the pipe buckled from the winds. Fortunately, we got all of the hay out of that one months ago.

Sometimes life is like that.

The wind is supposed to ease this evening as it backs to the north west.

Just cold here and a bit windy. Temps in the low 20º F. Have a full sheet of ice on the rink and will play hockey tonight for the last time this season. Temps in the 50's starting tomorrow and thru the weekend. So the ice will be gone and will have to get the lawn mower out soon.

'Sposed to get dusting of 6-8" tonite, then turn to rain, then to freezing rain, then back to snow, then turn bad. The saying here is March is in like a lion out like a lion.

No reason for me to unhook the blower and hook up the mower, though. Still a foot on the ground.

this one missed us but dropped the temp back to 18F. I'm running outa pellets for the stove. Hard to believe I've burned 5 tons!

This was a whopper of a storm for this time of year. 60 cm (2 feet or more) high HIGH winds. No fun. Summer probably cancelled. We seldom get this kind of weather here. This winter has been one for the record books for sure.

Few pics around my house and surroundings (city hall) follow.

I would think that the weather was such in Nova Scotia that it was declared a snow day and everybody stayed home? From watching the news/weather down east it looked brutal. I could not imagine the wind chill. If a car stalled in that kind of weather and a person got stranded......

This is a shot of my wife's parent's house. They're both in their '90's and the old guy (her dad) probably shoveled half of this. Just one of those guys who never quits.

Well, it's all over now.

Again, we didn't get the amount of snow eastern NS and PEI received, but it did pile up an a couple of places.
We lost our electricity from 4 PM Wed to 6 PM Thurs. I was shuttling up to the MIL's every 5 hours or so to re-fuel her generator (she is 83 and shares a house with her 93 year old SIL). After digging out I had a few shingles to replace on the garage.
The next job will be dis-assembling two fabric buildings which couldn't handle the approx 75 mph gusts we got around supper time last night.

The province basically shut down for two days.

Is it Spring yet?

Best

Ok, It hasn't stormed for three days, THREE days!! Today the sun is shining, mountains of snow are melting rivers of water on the streets, birds are signing, everyone is smiling and happy. Seems spring has sprung. It's +3 C, so all is forgiven, looks like we made it through to a better place. Woo Hoo!

Dennis,

We'll make it through this yet.
I was working today with a sweater on in 10 degrees and sunshine. The song sparrows were singing "Get out of my nesting territory!"
Yee Haa! Spring! (I hope)

I have lived all my 50 years in Southern California. We drove "to" the snow, and then drove home.

I have daughters in MI and MD, and I've gotten to experience weather for the first time really. And I have surprised myself in that I now know I could do it if I had to.

But that's a whole nuther order of weather!!!
