Question on how to ensure clean ownership transfer of guns

I got an email from the ex today. She apparently handled the gun sale, sounds like through a dealer. She's in Seattle, all done within the state. Grandpa does not know my son ended up with any of the guns or that I funded any of the purchase. He got the money he got, she told him to take a hike and not call her anymore. She then proceeded to fill my son in on more of his Grandpa's history, etc. Hated to burst that balloon but he's 21 and can handle it. It's about time he knew the good, bad and ugly regarding his grandfather. Tough to do though, she said it was a very difficult decision and conversation.
