When the gauge is at 1/2 tank.
When the gauge is at 1/4 tank. When the gauge is at 1/8 tank. When I am on fumes and the get gas now light is on. When I am stuck on the side of the road out of gas again!

I will vote in this as well.
I prefer to stop when I am down to 1/4 tank. I have never in my life run totally out of gas. My brother will drive until there are only fumes. My grandmother would start to panic if the needle was below 1/2 tank.

Typically, 1/4. Occasionally, down to fumes to see how accurate the "You have X miles left till empty" readout is. Never had the balls to let it go under 2 miles left till empty...lol.

I wait for the low fuel light to come on unless I am on a trip.

I know even with the fuel light on - conservative driving will get me where I'm going and back. Next convenient time after fuel light kicks on.
I'll also fill up at times I'm not as busy so I don't have to worry about it later.

In my own cars - when the light is on (to the annoyance of my spouse who gets crazed about running out). In rentals cars - 1/8 tank or as soon as the light comes on - since I don't know what the limit is.

I fill up anywhere from ½-¼ tank. I've been driving since '71 and have never run out of gas, neither
with my personal cars or driving company trucks. I have a fellow that works for my company that has run out 4 times in the last year alone. I can't figure him out. He says he's too occupied to remember. I say he's negligent.

When the gauge is at 1/8 tank.
But then, my gauge is always at 1/8 tank. Gotta fix that one day.

When the light has been on for a day or two. I don't know why I do this. I've only got it wrong once and the car stopped on the side of the road.

When the light goes on, BUT all my cars are equipped with an audible gas monitoring and warning device.
When the device begins to continually "buzz" me about the gas being low, or possibly being low, I look for a gas station and attempt to silence the warning device by stroking her knee and telling her I will take car of things. |

I voted 1/2 because that's when I start thinking about it.
Seems the 2nd half goes quicker than the 1st. Typically I fill up with 1/3rd left. Almost never below 1/4. My wife goes by the trip meter, right around 150 miles, she does not trust gauges.

I wait until it is low. Better city mileage that way with less weight to haul around. I can get to work and back when the light comes on and go near several gas stations so no big deal. In the winter I don't let it get that low if the weather is bad.

I'm usually in the 1/8 - 1/4 range, but I have been down to about 10-20 miles left before empty.

1/4 to 1/8 tank. More like 1/8 for the most part. I sometimes run it almost dry below the empty nark with the light on just to make sure I know how much further I can actually go to get to know my cars better. Just so I know what to do in that situation.
