BHTM Caribbean Cruise #3!

Hello there.

This was mentioned in another thread by the near-legendary Hugh R;

To be honest I hadn't really considered posting it here but perhaps some of you would find it interesting. It is a great experience, perhaps more so if you like the music.

This is not a 'cruise ship', these tall ship boats are really quite different from a typical cruise experience. Attendance is limited to 170 people, and since the boat is a complete charter we can set the itinerary ourselves.

IMO short of renting a catamaran this is one of the very best ways to see the islands.

Lots of fun! If you have any questions please feel free to contact me here in this thread or via PM.

thanks

The Big Caribbean Cruise 3 | Specialty Cruise

Sail the best of the Caribbean with your favorite band- Big Head Todd and the Monsters and special guest Hazel Miller. Fans have been asking for years when the next Big Caribbean Cruise would happen and now it is here- March 14-21, 2015. Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, Anguilla, Norman Island, Tortola, St. Bart’s… Hangout at the famous beach bars such as Corsair’s, Foxy’s, the Soggy Dollar, and the Willy-T. Feast on a cheeseburger in paradise as you mix with the locals at the famous Le Select bar in St. Barts.

All while enjoying intimate live performances throughout the week from Big Head Todd and the Monsters. This exclusive full ship charter of the 170 passenger tall ship Star Clipper of Star Clipper Cruise Lines. The almost yacht-like size of this beautiful four-masted ship will allow us to visit the smaller, out-of-the-way islands not accessible to large cruise ships. We will be anchored off islands with our launches landing passengers at small docks or directly onto beaches. Our custom itinerary will allow us to stay at these anchorages most evenings so we can fully experience the legendary local nightlife and establishments. Clear blue waters, white sand beaches, a great band, and a few of the greatest, friendliest, and funnest fans around.

I got the email. Not sure I can commit that far in advance. We caught your show last week at the Filmore. You sounded great!

Looks like fun Jeremy! Wish I could swing it. I'll just have to settle for red rocks. See you in June!

What a great trip. Maybe your tall ship will be boarded by pirates. Arrr.

I'm biased, but yes it's pretty cool! Lots of fun people.

Another cool thing about the complete charter is that we can waive the 'suit and tie for dinner' rule they usually have on this boat.

If my wife did not get motion sickness from just watching sailing movies I would book the trip. I would love it, but she would be sea-sick the entire trip.

That looks like a very cool "cruise" Jeremy! Gotta question for ya...how does it compare to the "Blues Cruise" that I think you've done a couple of now? And I'm referring to drunken debauchary and virtually anything (and EVERY thing for that matter) goes . If it's even close to what I've experienced on quite a few blues cruises and a Jam(band) cruise over the years, then ya might want to warn the timid beforehand

ps: You couldn't pay me any amount of $ to go on a regular cruise...but these "chartered" music cruises are a total hoot and a half...YMMV

This is VASTLY different IMO, mostly because of the size of the boat and the quality of the food.

On a regular cruise ship you can have plenty of mediocre food, at all hours.
This boat you get much better food, made for 150 people, not 2000 people. Available almost as often.

On a typical cruise you get 'ala carte' experiences for an up charge.
This boat, every 'ala carte' experience (water ski, most fishing, snorkel, shore experiences), most everything except SCUBA trips are included.

Socially, the benefits are nice for a few reasons.

On a big boat, you have 1,500 or 2,500 strangers when you get on, and a few new friends when you get on.
On this boat, you get on with 150 other like minded people and get off with almost as many friends.

I would say the price of this cruise makes it sort of financially prohibitive; take that however you like; for me it means I will meet some people who have worked very hard and will play hard and I might want to stay in touch with, socially and otherwise.

Music?
The Blues Cruise and the "5th Man" franchise cruises provide an amazing volume of music experiences on their larger boats. Totally great if you're a music nut.

This cruise obviously provides a much more narrow music experience. The biggest stretch is when I do a few nights in the piano bar playing trucker songs and no static's favorite show tunes.

Debauchery? See above "work hard, play hard" comments.

The bar last time ran out of their weekly stock of booze on the second day so we hired a boat to meet us and restock with 3x the typical stock for the week. They liked us. We made them put out a tip jar.

Thanks for your questions!

BHTM Caribbean Cruise #3!

Is there a pirate night? I would wear a pirate costume.

I kid. Sounds like an awesome cruise! Would totally do it if I didn't have a million of other things on my list. Sidney shows me pictures from this thread in order to try and woo me into going I think.

And I like fruity rum drinks. So I am good with the sea sick issue.
