Texting Driver Who Slammed Cyclist: I, Like, Just Don't Care

"I just don’t care because I’ve already been through a lot of bull**** and my car is, like, pretty expensive and now I have to fix it," she told a responding officer

Just wow..

That's one of the reasons I bought a helmet cam and use it for every ride, at least my estate will have proof of what happened

American law enforcement is totally oblivious and negligent about enforcing anything related bicycling

Unbelievable, if ever there were a case for the old "an eye for an eye" argument! She should have her spine fractured so as to better understand the difference between healing and dent repair.

since she's essentailly getting off scott-free. She should be instantly recognizable and despised in her home town. It would be great if she were recognized for being a piece of dirt everywhere she went.

Before piling on - I suggest you take a look at where/how the car got hit - and what intersection.

I'm not gonna leave any comments given its a sensationalists article with a motivation to twist things anyway it can.

Not saying the cyclists was at fault here - just saying we're very much short on facts, and without them, I won't comment.

I've had a cyclist come at me head on at night on an unlighted road with dark clothes and dark skin. If it weren't for driving a narrow/agile car he'd of collided with me and likely been injured. He was totally in the opposing lane and quite unsafe. He'd of likely gotten injured - and I'd of likely gotten pissed at the damage to my car. Fortunately I spotted him and took rapid evasive action diving almost off the road into the opposing lane. If I'd sent a text at the last red light I just left, you'd probably want me crucified to...

So without any real facts as to the collision - I'd wait to pile on.

Yup in addition to my story above - I see them drive right through stop signs and stop lights at full speed.

I've NEVER seen law enforcement write them up for it though.

But honestly - law enforcement will vary based on population density. The small town police will act - the big town police will write a report - if that. I've chased guys through multiple towns/counties calling the police at each new district I arrived. Big towns = no response. 20 miles away and a small town = guy hauled off in handcuffs. Makes for late nights following out of the big cities into the boonies - but I do get a response in the smaller towns. I imagine if you are cycling in a heavily populated area - there will only be a law enforcement action if some one is killed or taken to the hospital with critical injuries. Otherwise, maybe file some paperwork and thats the end of it.

I'd like to ride myself, but the roads around here just aren't suited for it. Too heavy of traffic and not quite wide enough.

Even if the cyclist was dressed in all black at night with no lights, going the wrong way on a highway while drunk there's absolutely no excuse for her lack of remorse. What a rhymes-with-runt. Karma will be very, very hard on her.

Time for 'eye for an eye'. Simply park her arse on a bike and the victim-cyclist can take her car and ram to his delight.

Serious question:

in Australia do the wanna-be bike racer posers act like the entire road belongs to them and it's the car's responsibility to get out of their way and avoid them no matter how much road they're taking or how slow they're going when riding 4 wide?

Or is that just reserved for certain cities in the US ............

There are a good number of us bikers around here who obey all the traffic laws and ride responsibly. However there are enough jerks riding out there to give us all a bad name. Every time I admonish them or criticize their actions, they blow me off or tell me where to go. Then they wonder why there are drivers out there trying to run them off the road. The bad part is they try to run me off the road too.

I'm not surprised and as an Aussie a little embarrassed but I'm sure there are people in countries all over the world doing exactly the same thing.
And dare I say it, Even in Canada and maybe the US as well.

Young people and mobiles. They seem to have a new special posture.
The "I don't' care..." is about dealing with what she's done. Not very well but it's her way right now.
I am sure at some point she'll have to face up to it for real. When that eventually happens she'll be all alone.

I really hope the cyclist gets better soon.

There are as many stupid bicyclists as drivers, but the bicyclists are, generally at least, paying attention to what they are doing. If even 50% of drivers are I'd be surprised

Texting is only 1 of the innumerable things drivers are doing while the are supposed to be driving

We do not know the whole story,Did the person on the bike actually T. Bone her?
If so, she truly is not at fault. Her mouth will make her pay.
I have had my too many fair shares of bike run ins.
None I have even been close to at being at fault, They own the roads and are right all the time!, Even "dead right" to prove they are both pedestrians and or a vehicle as a matter of which is the best convenience at the moment .
If you ask the Police people they will tell you the same thing.
It seems they swing a leg over the bike and now they are in a race and all the rules are for them.

I feel bad for the cyclist... and I am against testing/handheld while driving... and I respect/share the road with cyclist when I am out driving.

However click on that link and it reads like that national inquirer... really bad inaccurate reporting.

But yes she comes off as a self absorbed twit... unfortunately this is what the world is coming to.
