Am I the only one who has got a bad temper here?

I suspect not. I have inherited from my Mother the ability to vent out at somebody. It does not happen very often but I use it to good effect. My main object area of venting is probably the in laws. I find peoples' values are so different from mine. I just try to treat people fairly(as I would have them treat me). But drama queens are probably my area of specialty. They drive me nuts..

I really can't help myself. My father was not like that. My wife admonishes me about once a month. This is not a plea for help. I am sure that I am not the only one right?

My temper is so bad I actually have to walk away from some people in the middle of a conversation to keep from hurting someone (or getting hurt)
We had plans last night that were to involve a crowded venue and I was in such a bad mood from a couple of days at work that were above what anyone should have to endure I backed out and stayed home. I knew nothing good would come from me being there. Having a temper is one thing, not being able to check it or allowing yourself to be put in a situation where you know it is going to be an issue is another.

I rarely get mad and I never, ever, yell. I'm probably good-tempered to a fault. Even so, a friend who was directing a local theater production of Diary of Anne Frank begged me to play the Nazi officer who arrests them at the end. Because I look so German.

I had to hold a gun to people's heads and scream at the top of my lungs, in German, and generally act as evil and angry as possible. It was very, very difficult at first, but after a couple of weeks into the run, it got to be kind of fun. Like a sport. But was I ever glad after the final show.

Feck Off!!!

I'm cool as a cucumber 95% of the time... but the 5%... boy it ain't pretty.

I'm the youngest of three boys in a family of screamers... so I think I make a conscious effort to control myself.

I also have mellowed with age... don't flip the bird or yell obscenities while driving like I did in my 20's and 30's...

I have calmed down a lot as I have gotten older.....but my kids get me worked up. A lot.

If I had kids at 20 I'm not sure how I would have survived. I'm married to a redhead and in public situations I'm the calm one.

I'm calmer now, too, but unfortunately, I, too, have trouble with the red mist from time to time.

That's funny about the redhead, I dated one for a while, and I, too, was the calm one in times of stress. That'd never happened until I met her!

You are not the only one.
I have a very bad temper. I came by it honestly, having learned from the beatings as a kid that violence is always the answer.

I also have a hard time with inanimate objects... working on my car (after reading multiple threads on the Internet "oh yeah, that job is easy go for it!" or I work on computers at work (need I say more?) I can go from Mr Milktoast to cursing like a drunken sailor in a nanosecond. I don't approve of bad language but ten years as a construction worker dies hard.

I learned as a child that the first person to lose their temper loses the argument. I figured it out myself, I think I was a paperboy and someone got mad at me for something, can't quite remember the reason, but remembered how stupid the guy came across once he lost composer.

I also had a playground supervisor job after HS and watched this one teacher constantly yell- all the kids would just ignore her because she yelled all the time. I realized then and there that I wouldn't yell unless I really needed people's attention. Trust me, if you're always even keeled and you raise your voice, people take notice.

You don't want to argue with me, I have so much control of my temper, I'll mess with people when they start losing control and even get them more worked up- mean, yes, but lots of fun!

Always try to keep your goal in mind and decide if your action will get you there, if anger isn't going to help, it will only hurt.

Not a temper loser.
I had a good role model. I don't recall my father every losing his temper, but then I was the tenth child so I guess there was nothing he hadn't already seen.

When I do 'lose it', I'm more likely to make some sarcastic remark and regret it.

Maintain your cool.

Best

I know of several guys who "can't" control their temper when they are mad at:
-another other person who is smaller (or a woman)
-on the internet
-in the car where there is a sense of security

Yet, they have no trouble keeping cool when faced with an opponent who is much larger, has a firearm, has a badge, etc.

Funny how that works...

I don't think for me it's a bad temper. I just don't suffer fools. I tell it like it is and don't sugar coat it. I have a tough time being around people I don't like because I'm not friendly or nice to them. Luckily nobody messes with me. Being 6'5" and 230 # works in my favor but I am not a tough guy or a bully. I have never been in a fist fight. If someone starts to piss me off, I just tell them that they are standing in my kill zone and they usually get the point.

This life, which had been the tomb of his virtue and of his honour, is but a walking shadow; a poor player, that struts and frets his hour upon the stage, and then is heard no more: it is a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing.

William Shakespeare

I choose not to have a temper, and I tend to avoid most ego driven confrontational situations. I'm also a very happy person for whatever reason.

I can have a bad temper. I've gotten better with age.
I do my best not to direct my anger against people who aren't responsible for its appearance.
I get mad and get over it. I don't let it ruin my day.
Don't think for a minute that I've forgotten...

Similar. My parents died when I was five and I don't have a memory of my dad when he wasn't shouting. In my early teens I discovered "friends" were pulling crap just to see me get epically pissed off, so I locked it down. Ironically, ever since I've had people pull crap to piss me off because they've never seen me angry, including girlfriends trying to "get me to show I care."

I generally have a pretty cool head. My kids can get me to yell when they ignore me, but that's about it. I get pissed off just like everyone else, but typically keep it in. I do curse like a sailor when working on the car though.
