A riding mower that will last you the rest of your life?

I finally got my hands on the mower I have wanted since I was a teenager! It is a 74 model Snapper Extra Tough Hi Vac sort of like (if not the same model) that Forrest Gump used (you can see it in the background of the first picture). I have it totally disassembled and have started to paint it this evening.

I am selling my current mower to pay for parts on the Snapper restoration, so I figured that I would let anyone close to me know about it. It is a Yazoo Red Rider and it is a commercial quality mower with a 11hp Briggs Industrial/Commercial motor. I will include a spare, period correct 11hp Briggs Industrial/Commercial motor with it. If you are not familiar with these mowers, they are seriously built like tanks. Really thick metal on the frames and deck. It is actually thicker gauge than the Snapper. It also features an actual transaxle and is near guards red, rear engined and air cooled weeeee! It starts and runs like a champ, has new drive and deck belts installed and will honestly last you a lifetime if maintained properly. It needs a little tinkering done to it, but not much. I have it posted locally for $250., but would take $200. from a Pelican. I live about 1 1/2hrs south of San Antonio. Note: if you have access to new mower tires/tubes and a battery, I will make an even swap with you for the tires/tubes and battery for the Snapper! ![]()

Forgot to mention, it does have / will accept a small automotive battery under the seat. This keep you from having to purchase one of those lawn and garden batteries every year!

This is a picture off the internet, but it is what my Snapper Hi Vac will look like when I am completed!

My current lawn mower is a Lawn Boy M series. It has a magnesium frame. I bought it new over 20 years ago. I wore out one set of tires, front and back. There is a entire forum of guys that collect them and restore them. I just mow the yard with mine.

Antique riding mowers remind me of our family's first riding mower, when I was a kid. It was an Ariens Deluxe Emperor. I think "deluxe" just meant that it had a padded seat. lol.

Here is the last tractor I will ever own. I've had it about 4 years now,and pretty sure, that I'll pass it on to my kid. ![]() I also still have my grandpaps 1963 Cub cadet 100. Still runs, and mows. I used it regularly up until a few years ago.

I owned a Snapper rider for about 6 years bought it used with a blown engine. Bought a new engine online, installed it and it ran/mowed like a champ. I sold it when I bought my Cub Cadet. Have fun with the restoration.

Too bad I don't have a lawn! Well, a 40'x40' front yard that I pay a guy to buzz with a mower once a week.

Reminds me of our visits to the grandparents farm in Kansas... us city kids would fight over who got to use the riding lawn mower... our cousins thought we were nuts, to them it was a chore.

I believe that Snapper is a Comet. Our church had one during the years I helped maintain the grounds, it was nice, but the church eventually down graded to something they could replace every few years.

I will not own anything but a snapper mower, except for maybe a Ferris.
