Removable back-up camera

What does the PPOT brain trust know about back-up cameras? I am really tired of getting in and out of the truck to hook up my big trailer. But I tow it with two different trucks. Ideally I would like to get a camera that would stick to the tailgate with a magnet and send a signal to a monitor that I can hold in the cab while I back up, then put the whole system away when I don't need it. Is there such a beast?

From what I've heard, the cheapo kits with a dedicated monitor aren't very good, which would be the only removable option. Never seen a magnetic camera either, I would think it would be prone to moving out of adjustment. There are some pretty good retrofit kits on Ebay that have the display in the rear view mirror and the camera somewhere subtle, like the rear badge. You could also upgrade to a double DIN head unit, most of which offer a rear view camera option. What kind of truck?

My 2012 F150 has the display in the rear view mirror and the camera in the Ford oval badge on the tailgate, it's the OEM camera. Once you have one you'll wonder how you lived without it. You can also impress people by backing your hitch ball perfectly under your trailer hitch in one shot, it's funny as hell when they don't know you have a camera.

Grab something from here.

CCTV Monitor | LCD Monitor | Small Screen

You can also shop there for a camera or go to the local thrift store and find an old camcorder that has Composite out (RCA Jack).

Go for a suction cup mount to prevent paint damage.

I have a wireless rig with a camera and a monitor, the camera has a magnetic base so you can stick it to the bumper or box, back up with the monitor In you hand or plugged in to your vent. Now that I have a truck with a backup camera, I use the camera in the back window of the trailer so I can see behind it when we are driving. Battery lasts about 2-2.5 hours.

I'll dig it up and get the name for you
