do you find Oakley lenses are the easist to scratch?

i once found myself in El Paso without sunglasses..straight from the airport to the sunglass store. i never buy oakleys. but the cute sales lady had me pinned. she showed me flat black oakley with non Polaroid lenses. she said, (EP is a huge military town, home of the partriot missle!).."these are the sunglasses Oakley developed for the military.."

i bought them. what wimpy lenses! mountain biking and general outdoorsy stuff destroyed them. i just called Oakley and bought new lenses..$48. whatever.

man, i forget how nice clear lenses can be, i just snapped in the new ones. are they all like this, so prone to scratches? some of my friends wont wear oakley because of the delicate lenses...anyone? this might be my second pair of oakleys..my first pair got stolen from me in cambodia.

I still have and use a pair of Ray Ban Aviators from the very early '80s. A couple of small scratches on the side of one lens, very much my fault. Not a bad investment for 30 years of use.

My BIL loves Oakleys, buys a new pair every year or less. He uses plastic safety glasses for work, Oakleys for play.

I have a pair of Oakley prescription sunglasses that have to be almost 20 years-old. These days I only wear them for skiing, biking, kayaking, mowing & for DEs (i.e., I have another pair of sunglasses that I wear more frequently).

I think they have held up remarkably well, & I have to say that the clarity is much better than any other sunglasses I have ever had. I remember when I got them the local glasses place was not allowed to do the lenses to my prescription - they had to be sent to Oakley in CA to be done at the factory. As I said, the clarity is amazing...even after all these years (although my prescription has changed slightly).

I'm a fan & will probably get another pair when these get damaged. My 2 cents.

A protective coating started bubbling and flaking off the lenses after 2 years. Oakley's warranty is only for 1 year. At their prices you would think it would be lifetime. I'm back to cheapies off the rack at Sport Chalet and Big 5.

I bought a pair last year, so far so good. Much better clarity and all day comfort compared to the $15 Target specials that I've been wearing for years.

I've had a pair of Revision Hellfly for years, just can't kill em. I might have a few small scuffs on the lens, but nothing noticeable while wearing them. They're frigging bullet proof.....or at least bird shot proof.....literally

Has nothing to do with scratches, but back in 1979 or 1980 or so I was racing in a bicycle race in Seal Beach CA with our club, The La Jolla Cycling Club, and this beach bum sort of looking guy in an old van parks near by and comes over with a box and said he wanted to donate some of his sunglasses for prizes and to give some away, etc. Since I was club president I got a pair and each race class 1, 2 and 3 place got a pair. They were the fist ones I guess and I still have those somewhere!

They really took off when Greg Lemond wore them in the Tour deFrance when he was competing.

I have the Oakley Titanium Juliet's.....I buy the aftermarket replacements once every 12-18 months. I always make an effort to park them in the silk bag when not wearing them.

I like them because they are unique and not made anymore......I've had stupid level cash offers for them.

Yeah, my Oakleys scratched easily also.
Until I get rich, I've given up on fancy sunglasses... my $3.25 polarized ray ban knock-offs from Amazon are difficult to distinguish from an authentic pair.

It is just not that convenient when you're walking around...

No longer have Oakleys. Although I recall the optics were excellent. Sort of expected and after a few years of normal wear and use, fine scratches did appear.

I've been a long time fan of Sarengeti and are every bit as good in the optics. The lens seem to take the abuse but a negative on frame longevity. The frame materials easily snap, especially in the cold and the hinges wear out - flimsy. Like Oakley, prices have gone to ridiculous.

Back to Oakleys: I don't exactly remember the details but years ago was at a factory located outside of Montreal. They make sports related eyewear including pb-mask and swim goggles. Anyhow, walking thru the plant they showed a mold for a mask lens that was jeweled polished and looked flawless chrome in the extreme level of grind. I think they mentioned that they make some lens for Oakley. Nice stuff. I have some of their swim goggles that are amazing.

Buy cheap sunglasses. If you lose them you don't care. If they get scratched you replace them. People who spend a lot of money on sunglasses have succumbed to the programming. You are now who they want you to be. To the point that you will now argue with me in their favor. Sunglasses are not a status symbol or prestige item to normal people. Walk away........
