what's she worth ? 1983 911SC coupe

With retirement in my sight ( next 5 years ) I am rethinking whether to keep or sell my beloved 1983 911SC coupe She has been a great car and a lot of fun but with two P cars in the garage, a RV and possibly another boat coming it may be time to let her go. So I'm wondering what's a fair market value for her ? I'll try to list most of the highlights of what has been done to her and a pic or two.

46mm PMO carbs
SSI heat exchangers/M&K 2 in 2 out muffler
Milts custom one off fiberglass front/rear bumpers
fiberglass ducktail
Sparco race style seats with manual inflatable lumbar support
Bilstein Sport rear/HD front shocks
Carrera front/rear sway bars
Elephant Racing polybronze bushings
Fuchs 911 offset 7/8 " wheels tires have tread but are rock hard
Motor/chassis has original 120,000 miles and runs/drives/brakes great.
Sunroff delete car in quartz grey color ( 83 only ) with black interior
ducted brake cooling up front with a fan assisted oil cooler in front right fender
H4 headlights
That's pretty much the highlights, I do also have all the OEM front/rear bumpers, front valance and Carrera rear trunk lid/spoiler with excellent rubber.
So what's a ballpark number for this beauty ?

In retirement, you should have more time than ever to enjoy it (or to regret selling it).

Sorry, I have no feeling for what the car might be worth, but the first thing I thought when I opened the thread was, "That looks like the bumper Milt built!"

Best of luck in whatever you do.

I'm sure someone will want to do a proper leakdown test. How healthy is the engine because that will obviously play into the equation. From the pictures it looks like your burning some oil out of the left tail pipe.

My first thought as well. Keep her and enjoy her. SC prices are starting to rise so if you think you may miss her and want another one down the road you will pay a lot more than you sell her for now.

One of the first words you refer to your 911 is beloved. So you may have seller's remorse if you sell it. Like Rick said it could be worth more if you wait to sell it.

However with retirement coming up the sale of it could help put some $$$ into the retirement fund with the right timing particularly.

OTOH how many Porsches do you need? Being the owner of a Boxster myself would just keeping the Boxster alone be enough for you?

Tough decision!

I can answer that, NO. I DD a Boxster and I love the car, the smiles per gallon is way high, but it is not a replacement for my SC. There is something about the old air coolers that can not be replaced by a more modern, more comfortable, more convenient, newer car. JMO.

About 15 years ago I tried an aircooled 911 but cannot remember the year. When I test drove it I said that I would have one of these later. Fortunately the next Porsche I tried was a Boxster three years ago and it had the modern conveniences of heated seats and air cond. So I never looked at an aircooled 911 again as I did not want to be tempted. We only have a two car garage so the Box fits in well as DD year round.

For the original poster his circumstances do sound different - it is beloved to him, probably has more parking space and if $$$ are not a problem he should probably keep it. There is not much worse than selling a car you like and then want it back.
Guy.

Thanks guys I should clarify a few things. First off the smoke in the pic was after a 2 month hibernation and I had just rolled her out of the garage, smoke clears up after a minute of running. Second the right side exhaust outlet is capped for quieter around town driving. Third the wheels in the pic are long gone she's now wearing Polished/black Fuchs in 16 x 7/8. It's also not a matter of space I have a detached 3 bay man cave plus the two bays under the house so room not the problem. I'm just not driving her enough maybe I just need to drive her more ! But adding to the retirement nest egg is also a good thing and as I get older I'm really liking the creature comforts of the Boxster S. I need to think about this some more but appreciate the feedback. Happy mothers day to you moms out there !

Looks great! I'd say $16- $20k.

Maybe? It's a great car but the cool bits narrow the pool of potential buyers drastically.

I agree with Gogar's $16K-$20K range. I would find it hard to part with it, especially if storage isn't an issue. Plus, I can't see the addition of $16K-$20K to your retirement fund as a significant amount - enough to make a difference. So if you have other considerations about the sale, I'd think seriously about them.

I sold my 82 SC coupe about one year ago for $22.5K. Mine was in excellent shape with 87K original miles. The car was not perfect, but I disclosed all the imperfections in the ad.

I posted it here on Pelican and sold it in less than 48 hours with 6 interested buyers, 3 of which were very serious. I got full asking price. My reputation on Pelican helped a bit I think. Honestly I probably could have forced a bidding war between the 3 buyers and gotten more, but I really liked the most serious guy of the 3 and wanted the car to go to a good home, which it has.

Here's the sale thread:
FS: 1982 911SC Coupe - 87K Orig miles

Do I miss the car? Sometimes, but not much. I am glad I sold it and moved on. It was fun for nearly 14 years but I was ready for a new project.

There is a LOT to love there. The paint on the back dating bits looks great.

But those wheels hurt. If the original seats are gone, that hurts too. I'm with Gogar. $16-$20 depending on audience.

Guys the wheels in the pics are long gone she's got proper Fuchs. And I have the original seats which were recovered before putting them away so they are in excellent shape.

I agree with the other guys, $20k is the high side. The custom bits eliminate some shoppers, and you are getting to prime time for some potential work like a valve job.

Look at the Marketplace discussions threads and FS section! It's a sellers market! Instead of boost creep....we are having price creep....
