TEAM.... hate it when my boss addresses us as that

Do you like it or hate it when your boss addresses your group as TEAM?

We have a new interim director who took over for the previous boss that left the company. He tends to micro-manage as he learns the ins and outs of what we do since he came from a different department. What really gets on my nerves is that he read in some business book to address us collectively as TEAM...

It sounds great on paper, but it really grates me when some middling middle manager thinks that using the terminology of great executives/leaders will make him one too. Now I guess on the flip side, how should he address us, well not sure, but TEAM sounds terrible coming from him.

rant over.

What I really hate is when they call people "resources."

Ahh yes.

Even better when the mindless manager starts paralleling tasks to football team plays and achievements

If you manage a group of people what is a good thing to call them?

I have always struggled with this

I always had a fairly informal style, &always mixed it up by addressing the group sometimes as "ladies & gentlemen," "everyone," let's all," and so on. The only time I would address them as "team" was when complementing them, as "the way you all work(ed) together makes a great team," or comments about a great team effort.

I had an old manager that used to say "guys"

That worked until one of the 3 women on the team decided to complain to HR... He got written up.

Team or group, it's the same entity.

While he comes up to speed, yes, it may seem he is 'micro-managing' at first, in order to get the ins and outs of whats really going on.

Professor once told the class:"people don't bother you...you LET them bother you".

If it turns out in the long-run he's a bad boss, that will be self-evident to everyone.

If that turns out to be the case, it's just best to step aside and watch others self-destruct.

Our new corporate initiative is to refer to employees as "team members". Blech.

I dislike the term "associates" as well. Unless you are the company owner you are an employee.

He'd probably like a bigger paycheck and another rung or two on the corporate ladder.

I use hey everyone or hi all, especially in mass emails.

I once worked for a producer that used to start a project with an email that said "go team, go!". It was very lame

In the 90s
Tex winter said to the bulls "There is no 'i' in team."
To which Jordan replied, "there is in Win!"
