68 Corvette convertible. Whats it worth?

This car is located in GA. No interest in making it into a show car, but it would seem with some paint and TLC it would make it fun summer cruiser.

I'm guessing the answer all comes down to the rust situation?

That's a 68? Something doesn't look right on the nose to be a 68.

Its missing the flip up headlights. Probably not going to be worth much without the original engine. Might be fun to buy cheap and enjoy as a cruiser..

Pop up headlights have been glassed over and the bumper looks a bit off on passenger side.

Possible half assed collision repair?

Hood looks off too. I think I'd stay away from it.

I'd snap that up if I was looking for one. 9g is a pretty good price if it's a real deal 427 car. I know it has a 327 in it but I'd buy it

I would LOVE to have one of these... that one... not so much...

Maybe offer $5000 and expect to put $10,000 into it.

Disclaimer, I drive a super girly car, a Miata with and automatic... having said that... and that I LOVE the 68-69 shark... I would not buy on with an automatic.

YMMV

That would be worth a boatload of cash if it is an original 427 car and you put the right motor back in it. That said, the body of that car looks pretty sketchy. Look at the shot from the passenger side. How would the wheel appear to be too far back like that, bent frame?

Looks like a hit on the passenger side front. Enough to push the bumper down a bit. Is that is what caused the hood to be up? No headlights? You would have to buy a new front clip. Or not drive it when lights are needed.

I would not buy a car from GA - too humid / wet = rust. Spend twice that or 2.5x and shop in a rust free climate for a car that only needs minor work. Also get a 4 speed. You are nuts to buy an auto, as the 4 speed was very common in these.

I had a 71 roadster before I bought the 993. I bought and sold it for under $20k at the time. It was in good driving condition. Nice paint. 4 speed with non original 350.

Be sure to drive before you buy...that experience (even in a terrific example) is not exactly satisfying to everyone. That said, I think they are good looking cars.

Isn't the C3 typically referred to as being the worst Corvette ever made? Get a C2 so I can be super jealous, those are beautiful cars.

BTW, You should have come up to St Mary's OH last weekend. Buds Chevrolet holds a Vette cruise in and there were a few older vettes for sale. My son and I really enjoyed it.

You can hope that the headlights are only bondo'd over, still, probably more work than you'd like for cheap, cool old cruiser to tool around in. Might get old fast though.

I was going to post something similar. These cars are dead sexy, and great to look at, but if you have ever spent any time behind the wheel of one, the experience is sort of meh... I think my lawn tractor drives nicer.
Ever see what it takes to put a front clip on an old Vette? I watched my body guy buddy do two of them , it did not look fun.

Definitely would take a lot of work and money to make nice, but it DRIVES right now. I think if you can pick this up for about 7 or 8, you would be just fine with it. Though they are fiberglass, remember that the frame, door pillars, etc., are metal and those DO rust. Fixable but expensive.

Though it's been hermaphrodited with the SBC engine and ****ty body work, it is a factory big block roadster and therefore inherently valuable. Not a mega buck car like a previous generation, but you would probably be able to drive it as is and always get your money out of it.

Are these cars the mid-years versions of 911s? or...?

I would apply that to the 74-82 model years. Low HP, chrome bumpers gone. Difference is that I don't see those model years ever really appreciating in value much.
